Yes Virginia, there is such a thing as being terminally hip. And Starbucks is afflicted.
If youre unhip like me you had to look up third place
In community building, the third place is the social surroundings separate from the two usual social environments of home ("first place") and the workplace ("second place"). Examples of third places would be environments such as churches, cafes, clubs, public libraries, or parks. Wiki
James Wood, who lives and works with hipsters, grasped its meaning immediately and responded accordingly:
Because the primary reason homeless people people use Starbucks as their third place is to use their potties for #1 and #2. And because they dont have either a first place or a second place.
But dont feel bad, were all winners here in our 3rd place!
Good luck Starbucks. I hope you enjoy your new 3rd place. Or worse.
Meanwhile, the company's "Third Place Policy" which would allow anyone to hang out or use the restrooms in its stores, regardless of whether they purchase anything has already been leading partners and customers to question how Starbucks can continue to function as a business and refrain from becoming a chain of "homeless drop-in centers." I’m surprised this squish didn’t say, “If you use hurtful words, we will have to put you in time out, so you can think about better words.” GAG.
Other than the ‘third place’ business, I liked the employee’s tone in dealing with an offensive person.
LOL!
I can proudly say I’ve never paid for a cup of Starbucks coffee.
A friend bought me one once.... worst drek I’ve ever tasted.
Starbucks is a nonentity to me.
LOL!! Bump!!
“Starbucks is my lastplace.”
I’d make a big stink about referring to it as my Third Place.
I’m retired——and say that it is my Second Place and accuse them of age discrimination.
.
One of the bad things about virtue signaling is that it contains no virtue.
Interesting observation. We’ll see how this develops.
Like your “bottom line”.
Nope. My wife is. I refused to drink coffee when we were in Seattle.
Here’s the part that annoyed me. I was looking at the prices while my wife and daughter were ordering and noticed a lousy cup of iced coffee was ten bucks. Then my wife comes over to me after paying and I asked if she got a receipt (used a credit card). She said no. I asked how much it was. She said she didn’t know. Grrrrr!
But I’m not really angry with her. It was a one time thing. Interestingly, my daughter ordered that ten dollar coffee. It was crap (she gave me a sip). I mean, it was like someone took a cup of regular Keurig coffee, poured it over ice, and done.
My wife and I have not darkened the doorway of a starbucks for the last few years except for that. I even got my company to stop including Starbucks in their choices for our Keurig at work.
Well, I don’t know about anyone else but I find it refreshing that a business doesn’t tolerate the kind of language that is too common everywhere today - including here at FR..
