After months of pretending to be normal and reasonable on the diplomatic stage, North Korea's mask has slipped, and Pyongyang is back to threatening a "nuclear-to-nuclear showdown" that will "make the U.S. taste an appalling tragedy it has neither experienced nor even imagined up to now."
Why is Kim Jong Un's regime lashing out? It's not because it is offended at talk of a "Libya model." It's because it was hoping to follow the "Iran model" -- sanctions relief up front and weak inspections -- and is starting to realize that is not going to happen.
When national security adviser John Bolton first raised the "Libya model," he was not referring to the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi; he was saying North Korea would have to carry out complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization (CVID) before the Trump administration lifted its "maximum pressure" campaign. That is what got the North upset....

What happened in Libya was scandalous.
Not a model that should be emulated.
Let’s start with cargo ships moving every piece of ballistic and nuclear weapons material off the peninsula.
Then, let’s reform the little bastard, bring him into this century.
Problem, China will kill him and claim the territory unless countered.
Great time to be alive!

I agree. Khadaffi was a stabilizing force and what replaced him was worse.
Same with Hussein in Iraq.
The weapons removal to the United States went well. The overthrow of their leader ... not so much. But the two were separated by years. Another Obama/McCain/Hillary fiasco.
We came. We saw. He died!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
How stupid to use that as an example!
We have many more nuclear warheads than the Chinese and they know it.
Libya was definitely one of the bigger WTH moments of the Obama administration. It just came out of the blue and has been a disaster. I don’t think anybody but South Korea wants to deal with the reality of the situation of the people of North Korea.
Re: all these folks deigning to advise Donald Trump about what he should do. They either do not understand that the man is way ahead of them or they are trying to forecast what he will actually do do that they can then claim he took their advice. I do not have any idea about it except that whatever the denouement it will fit into the box labeled WE WIN YOU LOSE.
Only if Kim doesnt cooperate.
Trump doesn’t need to.
The Trump model is on the table and NK is feeling the pain.
It really is a terrible example to use. Gadaffi was disarming and cooperating fully with the U.S., including involvement in trade negotiations, when 0bama stabbed him in the back. Then left the smouldering ruins of Libya to rot.
What Kim needs is some reassurance that the next moonbat Democrat in the WH won’t attack an unarmed NK. It’s the kind of thing they do.
What we have here is the Trump model. NK just told the US they will now be required to stand unified with SK to repair relations with the US. Tell me that was not orchestrated by our mad genius.
Why would we want to move this crap? Blow it up.
Just as an observation, Trump is already up to his eyebrows having taken over one hot mess (Washington DC). He doesn’t seem bent on the sort of regime change adventures internationally that Obama was. It’s enough that he has inherited the subsequent mess. I doubt that he wants any extra helpings. I could be wrong, but...
One thing is for sure, I stand in awe of how POTUS has handled this mess to date.
Events are happening so quickly that the MSM can’t keep up with their spinning.
