After months of pretending to be normal and reasonable on the diplomatic stage, North Korea's mask has slipped, and Pyongyang is back to threatening a "nuclear-to-nuclear showdown" that will "make the U.S. taste an appalling tragedy it has neither experienced nor even imagined up to now."
Why is Kim Jong Un's regime lashing out? It's not because it is offended at talk of a "Libya model." It's because it was hoping to follow the "Iran model" -- sanctions relief up front and weak inspections -- and is starting to realize that is not going to happen.
When national security adviser John Bolton first raised the "Libya model," he was not referring to the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi; he was saying North Korea would have to carry out complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization (CVID) before the Trump administration lifted its "maximum pressure" campaign. That is what got the North upset....

I gather this has been presented in an unclear way (perhaps not unclear to Pyongyang) because the “Libya model” prior to about 2010 was good, the Libya model after 2011 was mega-bad and a blot on American foreign policy thanks to the Blotter in Chief.
Bolton needs to clarify this theme so people don’t get the wrong idea. Co-operate and prosper, go against and lose, but then Obama figured co-operate and be destroyed would be a dandy new policy. How anyone could think he was the smartest guy in the room after that idiocy is beyond anything I can imagine. I wouldn’t even totally say guy.
I understand that. You find a bigger supporter of Pres. Trump,
especially when it comes to his negotiating skills.
I don’t like using examples of American deceit and treachery as leveraging tools though.
I won’t be changing my mind about that.

In exile in China, Kim would lose North Korea as his personal recruitment pool. Hmmmm . . . it occurs to me . . . perhaps Stormy Daniels could be offered to Kim in compensation.
Libya and Khadaffi were not betrayed. Khadaffi gave up his nuclear weapons program as part of a complex deal with the US and Europe, but the deal did not include a security guarantee against internal insurrection. When that came, it was precipitated not by Western intrigue or manipulation but by decades of Khadaffi’s grievous tyranny and misrule. Weird, drug-addled, and delusional, Khadaffi rejected US, European, and Arab offers and pleas to take up a secure exile. With the insurrection becoming a civil war, the West finally intervened in hope of bringing the conflict to a close and averting Libya’s decay into armed tribalism and radical Islamism.
I believe he already made it clear that the Libya model is on the table - he let Bolton make the implied threat then he made the statement that he would allow Kim to stay in power if he complied....he pretty much said he has the power to do it either way and pushed the timer to make it Kim’s move....tick-tock...tick-tock...
Nonsense, the insurrection was instigated by Jarett the Iranian and Susan Rice and Samantha Power and Hillary Clinton, who unleashed the U.S. military against Khaddafi forces that were defeating the Islamic terrorists that the CIA was backing to overthrow him.
