For all those who are steamed up over the strike in Syria, just remember HHS loses that much money in accounting errors every month.
$100 million for 105 cruise missiles.
As for their actual impact, 105 cruise missiles are no more a deterrent for Assad, nor provocation for Russia, than the 59 cruise missiles last year.
It's apparent Russia turned off their S400 systems and let the US have a fireworks display.
Nobody believes it changes anything in Syria. Or the calculus employed in Iran or Norklandia.
“But 99% of Assads military was not a target, nor Iranian or Russian forces.”
Exactly. The target was to take out Syria’s chemical weapons capabilities. Not to degrade Assad’s forces so that the rebels could take over.
It appears the Pentagon correctly assessed Russian capability and wanted to demonstrate to the world, Russia cannot provide for your security.
That is a MAJOR strategic gain.
The chemical weapons and the facilities to produce and store them are gone. Neither side in this conflict in Syria can use them. Mission Accomplished.
I’m sure we can accomplish whatever we want militarily.
My concern is with what happens afterwards. If Assad goes, what takes his place.
“So what was accomplished other than angering a not insignificant portion of DJTs base?”
See post 40.
Then read this;

That part of Trump’s base ought to be ashamed of themselves.
Noted.
That still doesn’t mean that these strikes were ineffective.
Better Assad than the mullahs or ISIS.
Syrian air defense shot down a good number of our Tomahawks. The video is there.
“105 cruise missiles is hardly a major event”...........
Depends on if you are sending them or receiving them. There is a Major difference.
So very proud of our President & the U.S. military for the AWESOME job they did in Syria. They crippled Assad’s ability to create chemical weapons, and they did so without casualties & chaos. The international community cannot sit back and allow chemical weapons to spread the world!
*throughout the world!
The whole thing is confusing to me; but I think what you say is valid.
How much is one American serviceman’s life worth?
A weapons system from that seedy former Soviet Cold War flea market didn't work as advertised?
My thought as well, if you are at the receiving end, it is a big deal. This is a small demonstration of the might we can release if they persist.
Assad IS the Iranian mullahs.
He's propped up by their Hezbollah militia.
And what's left of his Russian mercenaries after they were mowed down by the hundreds by our Special Forces back in February.
