March 2018 was the least active month for sunspots since the middle of 2009, almost nine years ago. In fact, activity in the past few months has been so low it matches the low activity seen in late 2007 and early 2008, ten years ago when the last solar minimum began

In the paper linked via Bing: written in 2011 predicted irradiation at 1363 now, we are actually getting 1360.5 a big difference. We are declining faster than predicted, we werent supposed to be this low until 2030. Look out below.
I remember when Tom Lehrer came out with the ditty "New Math" way back when - if he only knew....
It was just an arrow pointing to the number 3 ... just a thing.
Thanks - I was afraid I was missing something important.....
Thanks. He’s a space geek. Graduates as an Astronautical Engineer next month.
Chances are pretty good that he took the photo of the sun with no sunspots in the article link.
Thanks Voption.

I was taught in college astronomy that not only was there an 11 year cycle, there was also a 22, 44, and 88 year cycle. Going back to 88 years gives us 1930, going right into the severe years of the dust bowl and the Great Depression. Fortunately, our changed agricultural practices mean our 88th years will not be as severe as those for the early 1930s. I predict that our world drought conditions will be more severe over the next 4 or 5 years.
In Cape Town South Africa they have a severe water shortage that is getting worse. A number of other big cities are facing similar problems.
Entirely possible another Ice Age. There are reports the Gulf Stream that warms Europe is slowing down. Greenland ice is melting, the north Atlantic surface water becomes less salty, since freezing makes it more salty and heavier, this means it is not sinking down to the bottom of the ocean which is what drives the Gulf Stream. Saltier water goes to the bottom, spreads south and in the south the warm Gulf Stream heads north. If it stops completely, move south and grab your thermal underwear.
In the short run, in addition to the 11 year cycle, there are 22, 44, and 88 year cycles. See also my Comment #47.
