Dear Village Board of Trustees:
You undoubtedly feel good about your recent assault weapons ban; a classic knee jerk, left wing gun control measure; full, like all liberal actions, of sound and fury, while signifying nothing but tyranny.
According to the ordinance, which you unanimously approved Monday night, it is unlawful for a person to carry, keep, bear, transport or possess an assault weapon in the Village, except if the weapon is broken down in a non-functioning state, is not immediately accessible to any person, or is unloaded and enclosed in a case, firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container by a person who has been issued a currently valid Firearm Owners Identification Card.
Your ordinance, forcing the 18,000 residents of your Chicago suburb to forfeit or secure assault weapons and magazines that fall under the ban by June 13th, forces those in violation to pay $200 to $1,000 a day as a penalty.
No wonder that your ban is already the subject of potential lawsuits, which will be filed by your enemies, those proponents of freedom, the Illinois State Rifle Association, the Second Amendment Foundation and the National Rifle Association.
Once upon a time, Deerfield, Illinois, was an upper middle class conservative enclave in Republican Lake County. But, times have changed. Blue Northern Illinois suburbia is now filled with liberal soccer moms and aggrieved Millennials who will undoubtedly support your unconstitutional and draconian gun control measure.
A good friend of our family lived in Deerfield from the early 1960s until his death in 1999. The man, a talented house painter, had grown up in Nazi Germany. He recounted to me in detail many times how the Nazis came door to door to confiscate guns in the 1930s. He, like all survivors of totalitarian dictatorships was perhaps the most pro-gun, pro NRA, pro freedom American I ever knew.
No doubt, he is looking down on Deerfield and crying. For he knows what will come next. Your actions are right out of a playbook that despots have used for centuries. It is called disarm the population then control them.
Under the ridiculous liberal platitudes of safety for the community (a word the Nazis often used), saving the children, stopping more violence, and peace on earth, your ordinance is a harbinger of future progressive actions to come, as you seek to turn this nation into a socialist and unarmed left-wing hell hole.
Our Founding Fathers were well aware of people like you. They risked their lives to declare independence to get away from people like you. They fought people like you. They shed blood to stop people like you from telling us how to run our lives.
In 1776, people like you were called Redcoats. In 1939, people like you were called Nazis. In 1970, people like you were called Soviet communists. In 2018, people like you are called the Deerfield, Illinois, Village Board of Trustees.
George Washington said, Government is not reason; it is not eloquenceit is force! Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master; never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.
Your actions are not only irresponsible, and unconstitutional, but demonstrate once again that government; whether it is federal, state or municipal is always one step away from crossing the Rubicon and taking away the God given rights of American citizens.
Gun control advocates always say just let us pass this one measure and well all live in a utopia.
But, there is no end to gun control and that is your plan. Today it is assault weapons and ten round magazines. Tomorrow it will be revolvers and shotguns. Next month it will be BB guns.
Next year it will be knives.
There is no end to gun control and no end to the lefts desire to nanny us into total tyranny.
A word of warning to the Deerfield Village Board of Trustees and the other local, state and federal government authorities infested with progressive tyrants millions of gun owners in America will fight, if necessary to preserve the Second Amendment.
We are not Great Britain. We are not Australia. We are not France.
We are Americans and we shed blood to ensure that we have the right to bear arms. If necessary, we will do it again.
Try and take that right away from us and watch Lexington and Concord 2.0s take place across the country, from sea to shining sea.
Montana aint Deerfield. Texas aint Deerfield. Dixie aint Deerfield. Upstate New York aint Deerfield.
To paraphrase the defenders of the Fort Morris in 1778 and those fighting for freedom during the Texas Revolution, Come and Take Em.
Your ordinance is yet another reason why this country, at all levels, must be governed by conservatives. Liberals are proving again and again that they not only disrespect the constitution, but want to destroy it.

An "assault weapon" is defined as anything black and ugly.
This is now prohibited in Deerfield.
But this is okay:
If it’s black and scary looking to the Left it’s an assualt weapon.
People in IL do the dumbest things ad nauseum.
The first dumb thing that they do is not putting forth every effort to get the heck out of it.
Never surrender your libertys to a foren envador or an aspiring demegog.”

The first sentence of that letter would have gotten the whole thing thrown in the trash. I don’t believe any one of those members read the entire letter.
Very well written and thanks for posting...
“”Anybody know if the ordinance includes a definition of an assault weapon?””
No one who is shouting about those bad, dangerous assault weapons can define what one is and no reporter will ask that question.
I think a novel approach to this might be helpful not just here, but against other local governments that want to take away gun rights. Sue them for civil rights violations. Putting them on the same moral grounds as the KKK.
42 U.S.C. § 1983
“Every person who, under color of any statute, ordinance, regulation, custom, or usage, of any State or Territory or the District of Columbia, subjects, or causes to be subjected, any citizen of the United States or other person within the jurisdiction thereof to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution and laws, shall be liable to the party injured in an action at law, suit in equity, or other proper proceeding for redress, except that in any action brought against a judicial officer for an act or omission taken in such officers judicial capacity, injunctive relief shall not be granted unless a declaratory decree was violated or declaratory relief was unavailable.”
But wait, there’s more.

Conspiracy to interfere with civil rights
“...or for the purpose of preventing or hindering the constituted authorities of any State or Territory from giving or securing to all persons within such State or Territory the equal protection of the laws...”
The reason for this is conspiracy charges are much easier to win against. In this case, almost *everything* they said to each other prior to their unanimous vote could be deemed conspiratorial, especially if they indicated they knew it was against the law.
It could be if that city is as sissified as people have been claiming then these idiots know there is not one person in that city who would own one of these weapons but it sure makes them feel and look good by passing that ordinance....Wasn’t it a city in IL years ago passing an idiotic ordinance that prompted the city of Kennesaw, GA to REQUIRE a weapon in every home? YEP!
The open letter to Deerfield should have started with “Dear traitors”.
Interestingly, the museum got the knapsack in 1928, and consider it one of their most treasured items. I would hang that on my office wall.
Sorry, TYR, I didn’t realize you meant the initial letter of the thread. True.
your first picture SHOULD be prohibited, for SURE!
(whereas everyone should have at least one picture No. 2!)
That unit sure is purdy...
How do the village idiots propose to enforce this ban? Will their police officers do warrentless house to house searches? Will the local schools indoctrinate the children to turn in tbeir parents? Will neighborhood snitches be recruited to report their neighbors to tbe authorities? These are all tried and true police state tactics. The village idiots might be surprised if large numbers of their population will simply flee their police state just like people fled East Germany and Cuba
Thanks! It’s a good, reliable shooter.
England is at the knife banning stage now.
With respect to attempted restriction on the 2A, it once again provides an indicator why evil always loses. Eventually, no longer how long it lasts, evil fails due to lack of initiative & discipline. Evil is a destroyer, not a creator; it doesn't encourage production, but rather destruction.
Because evil is undisciplined, it fails to remain patient and forgo action until it truly has the advantage. Rather than wait until more groundwork is laid to restrict guns, local communities are acting in fits of emotional outbursts entirely consistent with their history.
Too bad, so sad, evil will once again lose. Of course, evil always loses, so it's merely a matter of time. Those who would violate every citizen's civil rights have already lost; they just don't know it yet.
