One need not "admire" Pinochet or Franco to recognize that they were nevertheless preferable to the Communist alternatives. Similarly, there isn't much to admire about the bloody secular dictators of the non-Islamist, non-Sharia Arab states, except for the (important) fact that they aren't Islamists.
