There was a much safer alternative to alcohol...GHB
A few years ago you could buy tubs of it at General Nutrition.
Idiots (Including the Liquor lobby)screamed that it was a ‘date-rape-drug’ somehow they left out the part that alcohol was and is the oldest date-rape drug known to man. The only thing older is a whack on the head with a stick...but that is not really a drug.
This mayhem resulted in GHB becoming a scheduled substance.
It is true that in pure form it’s possible to overdo GHB, but the same is true of alcohol....just swig down a few ozs of Everclear or similar. These are 95 % alcohol, as high a proof as can be distilled...and they are dangerous.
GHB could be regulated to the same potency as alcohol. 5% to 40% beverages and allowed only for those over 21.
Less physical damage from liver damage and other illnesses would be the result...and the beverages would taste much better to boot.
But we are a nation of fools it would seem :-/
WE are aesthetically predisposed to ingest mind-altering substances....pharmaceutical firms should be allowed to create the safest ones possible.
Wake the F up Jeff Sessions and start living in the real world.

The fundamental fact is that people drink because they have learned to expect it to help them feel better. The pleasure principle in action. The four Reasons are just subsets of this basic principle.
Thiose who feel worse after first drinking, tend not to repeat it much.. Simple.

Why do you drink alcohol and what does it give you? It gives me relief from the guilt over all the blogpimps I've harmed.
And those I'm about to harm.

Because on the weekend nothing beats the taste of a fine wine or a nice dram of bourbon/whiskey/scotch. And on a hot day after work or play, nothing beats an ice cold beer.
Soda is disgusting. Coffee and tea have their purposes and time. Plain tap water is the daily drink.
