Ukraine votes to impose martial law for 30 days amid invasion fears after three of its navy vessels were captured by Russian forces

•The Ukrainian parliament voted in favour of martial law after a request from its President Petro Poroshenko

•The Ukrainian navy has accused Russia of firing at and seizing three ships in Kerch Strait off annexed Crimea

•Ukrainian boats were making their way to the Mariupol in the Sea of Azov from Odessa on the Black Sea

•The narrow Kerch Strait is only route to the shared territorial waters of Sea of Azov, which Russia claims

•Russia said it was forced to block off the strait because ships made ‘unauthorised crossing’ in its territory

Tensions are still high between Ukraine and Russia. 30-60 day martial law announced in areas adjacent to Russia.
Putin very much not seen as bending any time soon. However, European pressure rises. Potential for more sanctions.

Russia deploying S300 and S400 anti air missiles to the Crimean peninsula.
There are also reports that they are mobilizing anti-ship missile batteries to the site of the incident with Ukrainian ships - Kerch Strait - to further their blockade of Ukrainian ports on the Sea of Azov.

Ukraine continues mobilization of military forces. They claim Russia is preparing for an open invasion of its territory.

European countries continue bleats against Russian aggression, but have yet to implement anything.

Of further note: Russia provocations could be an attempt to influence upcoming Ukrainian elections.

For 181 years, the U.S. House of Representatives has imposed a ban on its members wearing head coverings. With Ilhan Omar, one of the first Muslim women to be elected to Congress, set to take her oath of office in January, that rule—which would have prohibited her wearing her customary headscarves or the hijab—is slated to change.

The change was proposed jointly by Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, Incoming Rules Chairman Jim McGovern and member-elect Ilhan Omar as part of a larger overhaul package.

When Omar is sworn in next year, she will become the first federal legislator to wear a religious headscarf. Her arrival will mark a number of other “firsts” as well.

The Minnesota Democrat will be the first Somali-American in Congress and the first woman of color to represent her state in Washington. She’ll be joined by fellow Midwestern Democrat, Michigan’s Rashida Tlaib, as the first two Muslim women in United States Congress.

Hats of any kind have been banned from the House floor since 1837.

ISIS Group’s NYC New Year’s Threat: ‘Harvest Them with Silencers and Snipers’

An ISIS-supporting media group threatened New York City attacks for New Year’s with suggested tactics including snipers and package bombs.

The latest threat circulated online follows other message from jihadists that have specifically cited Jan. 1 in calling for attacks.

One poster distributed online in mid-November superimposed a masked jihadist wielding a bloody knife over a collage of images from the 2016 Berlin Christmas market attack. It stated that New Year’s Day is “the date of retribution.”

Shortly after that, an ISIS-backing media group released an image of a demolished cityscape with multiple fires, warning, “Soon, Allah willing, the disbelievers will see the very thing they feared: 1-1-2019.”

Russia to ‘try’ captured crews on some trumped up charges
Sea traffic has resumed through the disputed straights.

No further provocative actions indicated by both sides though militaries are being ramped up.

- Israel has reported that it blew up a Hezbollah tunnel into Israel as part of operation “Northern Shield”. IDF has reinforced the region in anticipation of Hezbollah retaliation.
- Further reports that the airspace along the border has been closed off to non-military aircraft. Significant rumors over a pending IAF strikes.
- Lebanon has placed elements of its military on alert.

Russia/Ukraine
- Russia has closed the contested strait of Kerch for a naval exercise until Dec 9, no nonmilitary/Russian vessels allowed.

- Reports of as many as 50 tunnels have been discovered crossing the Israel / Lebanon border.
- Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah is believed to be transported to a new hideout due to possible strike by the IAF. No reported air activity as of yet though.
- Lebanese military is alert but no significant activity.
- Possibly related, USS John Stennis is heading for the Persian Gulf in a show of force to Iran.

Calm overnight though Israel has been releasing air photos of facilities the hezies have converted for military purposes. This may represent laying 5he ground work for air strikes.

Google approved a new Android app called “Smart Pakem,” which would help Muslims in Indonesia report their fellow countrymen if they dare commit blasphemy, or insult Mohammed or Islam.

Political leaders in Czech Republic have previously condemned Islam in strong terms. Now, politicians in the Czech Parliament are discussing the complete ban of the religion.

If someone calls for the killing of infidels and Jews, then it is not a religion of peace, says MP Jiri Kobza. He and his party Freedom and Direct Democracy, which is one of the larger in parliament, believe Islam is not just a religion but also a violent ideology that should be banned.
