Get ready for the Nazi label. The liberals on board that want their taxes paid for by someone else are building to a crescendo.

Eliminate the SALT Deduction for the two Highest Tax Brackets while leaving it unchanged to everyone else, otherwise the Republicans are giving a Gift to the Democrats.

Problem with that is “every one else” is deducting the huge amount of interest paid on their near million dollar mortgage on a plain suburban rancher in CA. I have no doubt the SALT deduction has massively distorted the real estate market in places in CA.

Nope, nope, nope, nope and I pay way more in taxes than “fair share”. I am blessed with a dual high income (relatively I guess since I don’t feel rich) Are some states net recipients of tax redistribution- yes. I am more than willing to send our tax burdens to your state,

First, I have never seen how those calculations are made. States with military bases, large fed govt employees, or just states with huge minority leaches? I don’t know. I have never found a good explanation for the statistics that and started state X gets say 107% more in taxes. Have you?

Also map obese and welfare and minority populations and that’s about the best corelation I can find.

Anyway - it’s not personal and I truly hope you see that. I don’t like the redistribution and social engineering via the tax code. I can help control city, county and somewhat state via political activity in Alabama but I have no voice in Tennessee. So Tennessee should not expect tax deductions via federal taxes for taxing more instead of doing with less. States know what taxes are federally deductible and use that as a lessening blow when the add or increase them,

I have lived in 8 states. I can move states to maximize my benefit from the states. I will not flee my country.

Btw - we have 5% state income tax and locally it’s 9% sales tax so I’m getting screwed also. It’s not just you it’s all of us and they want us fighting over 1 or 2 percent change based on deductions so we dont question that 50% tax hand in our pocket.

So nothing personal - fight all social engineering via taxation and fight all taxes!

I don’t live in a high tax state.

You do what you want, but it is not my responsibility to pay the fed on your behalf.

Oh and you may really hate my other opinion. I want an immediate halt in all SS taxes and payments. Those collecting wasted the money collected and left the country in 20 trillion in debt with another 100 trillion in unfounded liabilities so enough is enough - kill it NOW. No more. I don’t care what anyone was promised. It was an empty promise and should be eliminated next month. I personally again would get screwed but it’s the truth - it’s a scam and a generation tax and immoral!

Bujt those big Corporations get to KEEP their SALT deductions, get to get a STEEP tax cut. And WHO is paying for all of that?

Corporate taxes are a sham. Businesses pass their taxes onto us consumers in the form of higher prices for goods and services.

Who are corporations anyway? The big ones are publicly traded. If you have mutual funds in a 401(k), 403(b), SEP, IRA, or brokerage account, you might find that *you* are part owner of many corporations!

No problem. I get called worse, almost daily.

The real problem here is that people are so self-centered that they miss the big picture: all these deductions, exemptions, and write-offs are why the federal tax code is 74,608 pages long!

As a result, we, as a country, spend an estimated 8.9 BILLION hours per year on tax compliance. That's 8.9 billion hours wasted -- not producing *anything* of value. Tax compliance costs us an estimated $409 *billion* per year! Now, add that up over 10, 20, 30 years....

We're supposed to leave our children with a better country than we had, not with more and more pages in the U.S. tax code!

Home Mortgage Interest Deductions are already capped on Interest paid on a One Million Dollar Mortgage.

The new proposal would cap the Mortgage Interest Deduction on Interest paid on a $500,000 Mortgage. Any Interest paid for an amount exceeding that will not be Deductible.

Big problem in places like CA where even a starter Home could cost over $500,000 and those are few and far between in a decent Neighborhood.

The GOP had better tread lightly and pick their fight. If they alienate the Middle Class or even appear to they are toast and so is the Republic.

You don’t hand your Enemies the Weapons to slay you.

Let’s say your local tax bill is $1,000 and due to a Federal tax deduction it gets lowered to a net $800.

Or your local tax bill is $1,000 and due to a Federal subsidy it gets lowered to a net $800.

Explain to me the difference.

Could you not ask the same questions of the increased standard deduction for married couples? Or, the more lenient tax thresholds for married couples?

How about “charitable” deductions, you know, like those for campaigns...homeless homos and church?

Or, even the “subsidies” for children?

From what I can discern from your questions above, you do not believe we own the money we earn. And you think it’s OK for government to take more in some circumstances that you favor, but not OK in other circumstances according to your preference.

All deductions taken by everyone are a good thing. That means they get to keep more of their own damn money.

Taxes are not a zero-sum trade where a decision to take less from one person necessitates you take more from another.

It’s our money.

Not yours.

Any advocacy for any entity to take more of it by force is immoral and anti-conservative. And it will make you an existential enemy of the person that was robbed.

You’re still not explaining to me the difference between a subsidy and a deduction when the two have the same net effect.

If you want to believe that all deductions are subsidies, that’s your choice.

If you cannot discern the difference from what I have already posted there is nothing I can write to change that.

It’s your argument that there’s a difference between a deduction and a subsidy and if you can’t explain it then maybe you need to reconsider your assertion.

To me if the net result is identical then the difference between a subsidy and a deduction is purely semantic.

A subsidy is when you get the Earned Income Tax Credit.

A deduction is when the rest of us get to keep our own money.
