What if the entire world were on Greenwich Mean Time? End all time zones?

Question:

What would happen if all time zones were abolished and the entire world set their clocks to Greenwich Mean Time?

I am pondering this because changing clock time, whether due to Daylight Savings Time or traveling to a new time zone, is an opportunity for mistakes and even deadly errors.

"I think China has only one time zone."

I'm not sure about that but their menus all have numbered items. "I want 69" might mean roast pork egg foo young or does it?

"Then the government couldnt remind you that it has such complete control over your life, that is can oblige you to perform a meaningless task. Twice a year."

So, you don't want to change your smoke detector batteries?

It’s even worse. Farmers say that the extra hour of daylight burns up their crops.

Trains would run on time (which was the original reason the Standard Time Zones were established in the first place).

Heh. No, the punctuality of trains is not effected by the lack of time zones. What happened was every little Toonerville had its own time, and writing train schedules became something right out of Rube Goldberg.

That tells me some K street Lobbyist is paying our reps to do nothing.

It is all about the money sheep.

Our reps do nothing because they’re afraid to do anything that might upset someone. And I’m not a sheep.

Is this really a huge issue?

In my work, we have conference calls often from one part of the country to the other. And we always note time in both time zones, such as 8 AM Pacific/11 AM Eastern, when the meeting is scheduled. As long as everyone knows the time to be there in their own time zone, it seems to work ok.

Base10 to base60 and base12/24 are all part of the intelligence test I always point out to non Americans when I meet them, that most real Americans don’t have trouble grasping. If the rest of the world can’t figure out clocks, time zone conversions, and the other Continental (I also refuse the term imperial, we won, and they [what is REALLY left of british empires?] dont use anything other than the made for dummies base 10 metric system.). Perhaps that’s why we are still in charge.

I think we should convert to metric time

You joke, but the Swatch group actually came up with a marginally workable system for that. Swatch Internet Time. Combine that with a Discordian Calendar, and we'd all be set. Noone would have any idea what time it was, or what day.

For me, the current date/time would be the 17th day of The Aftermath in the YOLD 3183 @227

If that's not confusing enough, the day of the week is Prickle-Prickle.
