President Donald Trump's comments on Friday in Alabama that NFL teams should cut any player who protests during the national anthem left a bad taste in the mouths of many players, and it turns out multiple ownership groups took issue with his speech as well.
"Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a b---- off the field right now," Trump said to a cheering crowd in Huntsville. "Out. He's fired. He's fired."
Commissioner Roger Goodell called out the president for his remarks, and players from Richard Sherman to LeSean McCoy and more shared their responses on Twitter. But they weren't alone in criticizing the president for his comments.
Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch released a statement Saturday:
"Comments like we heard last night from the president are inappropriate, offensive and divisive. We are proud of our players, the vast majority of whom use their NFL platform to make a positive difference in our society."(continued)

Right there with you...the Fins have been a disappointment to me since Marino retired but still followed them. This BS is too much though!
As of now, if major league baseball had any sense, they’d make hay with this. Hockey the same.
Have a hell of a big patriot program in the pregame for the world series.
I havent watched MLB since the strike way back when. Maybe it would be time to get with it again if they do above.
Used to watch the Brewers when they were a good team-when they went to the series. Dont know diddly about them now...or any team for that matter.
And there it is in a nutshell: the NFL believes their fans are too old.
By embracing liberal politics they believe that they can attract those important younger viewers while gambling that older fans won't be offended enough to change viewing habits.
“You can’t win this fight, idiots.”
In large part because we America-lovers HAVE THE MONEY to bring the NFL to their knees, and that has begun.
The Packers?! Why can’t these people have the good sense to keep their mouths shut and play.
Yep if the players start mass protests against the Flag and Anthem the NFL is finished. The perpetually aggrieved liberal demonrats have destroyed another institution.
Rozelle would have quashed this quick..this Goodell guy is killing this league.
I love seeing all these billionaires suck up to their employees who hate them.
All of the NFL is losing this fight.
Keep it up, failures. Your ratings are tanking, you are losing audience and relevance.
The NBA even more so.
I will be happy to see these sports leagues die.
The NFL is shooting themselves in the foot. It is becoming the National Football Loosers.
I was just on the nfl Facebook page. It had over 1400 comments to the latest topic and 99.5 percent of them were totally blasting goodell and the league owners.
Paraphrasing one of the comments - “I work in a bar and my customers are all telling us to chance the channel when the football games come on. Now it’s all Wheel of Fortune or Jepordy”
That would be wonderful. However, the fans would not only be missing a game they paid for but, also, their time, cost of parking and whatever else. I will not be surprised to see where fans just do not show up. I hope so, in fact.
I wonder how Packer fans will react to this nonsense. They are some of the most loyal I have ever seen. But, kneeling and/or supporting it may push some away. Not counting on it, honestly. They are so invested, they may put up with it. We shall see.
signed, a Pats fan in Packer country.
We are looking for a new church still from when the pastor started spewing crap when the travel restrictions were enacted. Have not been back there since and no longer fund that church.
We used to go to most of the games in three different named stadiums including that dolphins/chargers marathon game where we almost drowned. The NFL has gone down hill and it is downright boring at times. Not worth watching anymore.
As an owner of the Pack, I’m sending an email to them tomorrow. I think Packets fans will be supporting the Packers but I think Packers president will be under fire.
Like others have speculated, they will likely just remove the anthem from the games, altogether. If they do, fans should start singing it themselves.
Giants likely have fewer felons than the average in yhe NFL. As to John Mara’s reaction, may be de rigeur for NFL owners today but John’s dad Wellington, USN in WW2, would have a different opinion I think. I would sit near and talk with Mr. Mara at Fordham hoops games. Real gentleman who would kid my young daughter. But you had to see him stand for the anthem at the start of the games.Rigid attention
I let them know my displeasure with Goodell and his embracing of the anti-American left and how they are ruining pro football. It was good to let them know President Trump is correct in all this. I encourage others to vent to them as well.

I never knew I would contemplate ditching the NFL. I am getting close. Now baseball is getting ‘tarded up. If this seeps into Hockey I will lose my mind.
Yeah I have a suggestion for sports. How about instead of bothering me with liberal bs, they adopt a conservative patriotic approach. Ohh, that’s so unacceptable? But I have to be offended by their crap?
Nobody will say it but the NFL has become the Negro League. 75% black and about 99% of the starting players on defense are black these days.
The fanbase is white, aging (game is too slow for video game generation), and Red Staters.
It is being targeted by globalists because this is the one place they can find the working class whites and shove their leftist agenda. Began really with the pink “Let’s get women to watch football by acting like we care about them” breast cancer awareness. Now you’ve shown the League can be used to promote a cause - however good it may be.
Next step it to turn that power into political power.
This is coming to baseball. Had a player kneel “in solidarity” already int eh Oakland/Rangers game.
This is coming to college football. U of Missouri players said two years ago they’d go ‘on strike’ unless the head of the university was fired. So they fired the head of the university.
Leftists don’t have religion. They don’t have days off to chill. POLITICS is their religion and they pursue it 24/7/365 days a year. Every event, every movie, every activity, every statue, every food, EVERYTHING is there to promote their political agenda.
We need to defund the NFL from receiving taxpayer money. Stop watching and vote with our time and dollars. We have the power because we are the actual fans. Once they feel it in their pocketbook, they’ll start following Trump’s advice.
