My suggestion in no way would eliminate the Electoral College. I am, in fact, strongly in favor of it.
Let’s consider this hypothetical. It’s the 2024 presidential election. Here’s the result in a winner-take-all state:
Democrat candidate: 40%
Team MAGA candidate: 35%
GOPe candidate: 25%
As it is, the Dem candidate will take all of the state’s electoral votes as Team MAGA and the GOPe have split the conservative vote. This could certainly happen - over and over again - if Team MAGA becomes a viable third party.
Better to hold a run-off, maybe two weeks later, between the Dem’s and Team MAGA.
