US president Donald Trump has visited critically-ill party whip Steve Scalise, who was shot by a rifle-wielding attacker as he practised for a charity baseball game.
Mr Trump spoke to the House of Representatives majority whip's family during a visit to MedStar Washington Hospital Centre on Wednesday evening.
The president and his wife Melania spent about half an hour at the hospital, where White House press secretary Sean Spicer described the scene in the intensive care unit as "emotional".
Mr Spicer said the president was also briefed by Mr Scalise's medical team, met Capitol Police officer Crystal Griner, who was shot in the ankle during the attack in Alexandria, Virginia, and thanked police who gathered at the hospital......

These shootings are not Stand Alone events. This is the culmination of a year of violence directed at Trump’s campaign and his followers. We have been threatened, beaten and attacked by mobs that the Democrat city police are ordered not to do anything. Trump had to cancel a rally in Chicago after the Mayor told the police to stand down and let the riot proceed. The cops were totally p.o.ed about that and his refusal to allow them to wear Riot Gear.
While the Democratmedia was blaming Trump for violence the fact is not one of the opposition’s events were attacked in that way. While hundreds of supporters were injured by these attacks they did not attack anyone else at all.
All the violence is coming from the Left not the Right.
If they think they can get away with removing Trump, they have another think coming.
There were no homeless under Obama and every school kid was well fed.
It’s still to early now, but in a few months there will be non stop stories about the homeless and....the children...the children too hungry to learn!

Besides that, I blame the Republicans in DC. If they don't realize, fast, what side they're on, the coup cannot be stopped. Their expressions of sympathy were real nice yesterday. Only problem is most of them seemed to think it's all about them. It's all about US, and giving 100% support to our elected choice to be President.
Odds of those things happening? I'd guess near zero. Is it wrong to fear that the US could become a shooting gallery this summer?

He appears to have been in the area for at least a month. Spent a lot of time in the YMCA across the street from the baseball field.
He had a van. No one has reported where the van was parked.
He also had a 9mm pistol as well as the rifle.

This was a pre-planned military style ambush two months in the making. This was an assignation. The perp knew about the charity baseball game and the practices but he was exactly sure of when the practices took place but he did know where. He knew that practice would be the best time to make the hit. So he camped out at the target zone and waited.
There’s not much to see if you are looking at a rifle from the front, down the barrel, especially if you are occupied with looking for an opportunity to steal a base, or watching what’s going on at home plate, and maybe to see the guy, have to peer through a chain link fence.
Yes, it was clearly a planned assassination.
It completely backfired, as assassinations often do.
The shooter has done more to discredit the left than the entire Republican Congress for the past six months.
Over the last 50 years, the establishment media was able to turn most assassinations into a political narrative that they controlled. They no longer have the power to do that.
