Well, it’s a start. How many more will leave or have to be fired?

Good. Now replace him with a Trump appointee. (Note: they could have done this without his resigning: executive branch appointees serve at the President’s discretion, period.)

No, only a subpoena from Congress or from the Justice Department can legal compel his testimony, and he was the choice of invoking the Fifth Amendment and refusing to testify.

She can't MAKE him do anything if he is not agreeable. He can always quit in protest like he did.
She could probably order him to go to the hearing. But to get him to say what she wants him to say was not going to happen.
Nobody can force words out of people's mouths.
The federal government departments, agencies and general bureaucracies are 90%+ filled with liberals and democRAT supporters, so one more gone in one department is better than none of them gone at all.
But it looks like the next four to eight years will be a long road to haul getting rid of these subterfuges and Obama holdovers. Obama packed them into the government agencies. The Left knows how to play the long game for sure.

Oh, now this is sweet news to my ears. DeVos needs to run a red hot poker through any of these entrenched bureaucrats who stand in the way of drastic reform.
One thing is for sure, even if we did get drastic reform of education it would still fall way short of what needs to be done to save education and Americanism.
Public schools are openly indoctrinating our children into being marxist pigs. The whole system needs to be turned upside down and shaken until all of the leftist goons fall out. Only then could we start some real reform.
