A lot of people in the (perhaps, fatally) distracted US media, as well as apparent, armchair “commenters and posters,” still openly poo-poo the idea of a Korean EMP attack on America.
I don’t know why. Except to say that in some cases there seems to be almost a kinetic need for this sort of denial. A mysterious, occulted, inner knowledge—a feeling that— despite conspiracy-facts—everybody else is just wrong.
“Oh, even if there were an EMP attack, it would take a really long time for people to be affected, and we could handle it.” This sort of critic seems to believe that they will be able to “lock and load,” break out the freeze-dried lasagna, “molon labe,” and survive in the mountains on goat milk.
What they do not seem to know about, or take into account—whilst still ignoring the reality of a possible EMP attack—is the principle of the above-cited, “Catastrophic, Cascading Systems Failures.”

Interesting. Makes me think back to Glenn Beck telling us all to fear the new grid upgrades and that we need to banish the power company guys from trying to put smart meters on our house. Was he trying to hinder efforts towards prevention of such a catastrophe? Knowing what a snake he is now, it makes me suspicious.

Hard to argue that. There’s a Sam’s Club less than a mile from me. I’ll just go there and stock up after an EMP. They are ALWAYS loaded to the brim with food. After that, if they do run out at some point, I’ll just go into my back yard and shoot me a deer when I need to.
Difficult to see how THIS TEXAN will have a problem surviving. Not sure about the other 24,999,999 though.

The recent malware attack gives a small hint of what cascading system failure looks like. Just think about how long the wheels keep turnong with no credit or debit cards, no EBT, no EFT or bank transfers...
The deep state has demanded war since before Trump got in office....it has been the Russians, Syria and now North Korea. Sorry, but I am just getting to the point I question everything being fed us. There has been an active 8 year deliberate defanging of the US by the globalist. They need a weak USA or they need us gone as a power....Without Clinton in power to continue the enemy within weakening of us, all that is left is massive destruction by war and they are walking us through that door.

An apparently, severely weakened and degraded America, was recently unable to even handle one, lone terrorist—a lousy little kid—in Boston.
Not even an army of police got this terrorist who blew up the Boston Marathon and killed people. No. It was some guy who “broke the Government narrative,” by not “sheltering in place,” and who went out into his yard to catch a smoke, and spotted him.
Do you understand now? One attack on a limited amount of territory can theoretically bring down an entire country. Especially a country that has done Nothing to protect its electrical grid. Especially a country apparently divided into “thinkers and emotioners,” who are diametrically opposed, and who never seem to agree on anything that disrupts their public narratives.
Cascading failure in power transmission
Cascading failure is common in power grids when one of the elements fails (completely or partially) and shifts its load to nearby elements in the system. Those nearby elements are then pushed beyond their capacity so they become overloaded and shift their load onto other elements.
Cascading failure is a common effect seen in high voltage systems, where a single point of failure (SPF) on a fully loaded or slightly overloaded system results in a sudden spike across all nodes of the system. This surge current can induce the already overloaded nodes into failure, setting off more overloads and thereby taking down the entire system in a very short time.
This failure process cascades through the elements of the system like a ripple on a pond and continues until substantially all of the elements in the system are compromised and/or the system becomes functionally disconnected from the source of its load. For example, under certain conditions a large power grid can collapse after the failure of a single transformer.

On July 9, 1962, Hawaii was hit by a massive electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack, which within minutes took down the state’s communications systems and traffic lights — virtually everything that ran on electricity.
The EMP wasn’t an attack by a foreign government; rather the U.S. government had set off a 1.4-megaton nuclear warhead at a height of 248 miles above Johnston Atoll in an operation the military named “Starfish Prime.” The test caused radio disruptions in Hawaii, California, and Alaska, and knocked out six satellites above the Pacific.
“Nobody expected this to happen,” we are told, because the test site was some 850 miles away from Hawaii.
With North Korea developing its nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities, Hawaii defense experts are concerned North Korea could target the 50th state with an EMP attack. Such an explosion, if executed high enough in the atmosphere, could be hundreds of miles from Hawaii and still damage its operations and communications.
“This is not theoretical. It has already happened,” said Clairmont, noting significant damage was done to both civilian and military electrical and communications systems.
The concern regarding the threat of an EMP attack on Hawaii’s electrical grid and communications systems “is real and must be taken seriously,” U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, told Fox News.
“Almost every aspect of our lives is reliant on electricity, much more so than in 1962 — everything from banking to health care to communications to automobiles — so you can imagine the devastating impact such an attack could have,” Gabbard said.
In Hawaii, there is an added layer of risk even if the attack were not directed at Hawaii, Gabbard said.
Conversely, a nuclear attack on, say, the port and city of Los Angeles, could affect the entire state of Hawaii. (As well as a large cascading failure throughout a significant part of the entire continental United States.)
“If an attack occurred on the mainland and the electric grid were shut down on the West Coast, it would create a crisis in Hawaii through the total disruption of our food and energy supply chain,” Gabbard said.
If there were an attack on California, it would likely knock out a lot more of the electrical grid by means of a catastrophic cascade of subsequent, rolling failures. No one can say how far or how fast this might spread. Not even our “brilliant” media, or our well-meaning commentors and posters.
Now, the question also arises: what technological influence does Iran have on North Korea, or North Korea on Iran? Are they cooperating to develop deliverable nuclear weapons systems? If one of them has some techno-advance, does the other also have it?

Because Iran—apparently enabled by Barack Hussein Obama—seems to be ignoring many of the “nuclear ‘deal’ restrictions,” and moving hell-for-leather to increase and advance its weaponry.

Let’s look at a few things.
North Korea has the means to deliver and EMP strike on America, either from its two orbiting satellites, or by some other means.
Conceivably, North Korea could use its own technology, or that of Iran, to launch a limited range missile at Hawaii, or California.
They could also possibly launch from submarine, neaby a chosen US target. American forces were recently unable to track 50 North Korean submarines when they suddenly all sailed off at the same time.
And one North Korean sub is “missing,” wherabouts still unknown.
Iranian forces have reportedly had success in at least one submarine missile launch. Ergo, why not North Korea—by means of sharing technology?
Here’s an even greater nightmare: a simultaneous attack by BOTH North Korea AND Iran.
Given the apparent level of insanity, hatred of America, and/or desire for world conflagration, or regional dominace—why not?

I can’t predict what the nut in charge of NK might do, but forget North Korea or any other rogue state.
The problem with these EMP scare discussions is everyone gets wrapped up in guessing about things no one can know and misses the real point which is made in this article: catastrophic cascading systemic failures that can create great disruption, panic, and loss of life.

This was a textbook example of cascading failure. The event was triggered by what should have been a local power outage when power lines near Cleveland sagged on a hot day to touch “untrimmed foilage”, aka a tree. But because of other failures, the impact caused adjacent systems to trip out as they are designed to do, and by the time the cascade ended, over 80% of the generating capacity had been lost. You have to read the article above to appreciate the full impact - but in NYC alone, over 40,000 public employees had to be called in, and some affected manufacturers took a week to get back into production.
And this was a very small event that did very little permanent damage. The cost was incurred by the time without power until everything could be brought back up. Now imagine what might have happened if 10 or 20% of that generating equipment had been damaged and was out of commission for months.
This is just one example we all remember, but it illustrates the problem of how interwoven complex networks are vulnerable to cascade failures.
You don’t need an EMP weapon. A coordinated attack against the power grid could be launched with a few terrorist teams and a few sticks of dynamite on a hot day when the system is already stretched to the limit.
Or by a coordinated malware attack. And guess what, those power grids are managed by computerized SCADA systems running on...Windows PCs.
Since the EMP will probably eradicate most electronic circuits you better plan on walking to the Sams. That begs the question on how to get all those supplies back home. It probably won’t take long for folks to figure out the power is not going to come back on for a while (many transformers on the power grid will blow all at once) so competition at Sams will probably be fierce. Even the government was recommending a emergency supply of 2 to 3 weeks. If you can, be prepared to sit it out at least 3 weeks after an EMP.

You’re joking right? The store will be locked up because without electricity they can’t check anyone out and your credit card will either be burned out (with the chip) or the computer on the other end and every bit of equipment between the store and the processing company will be down. They won’t take cash either because their inventory system is permanently down and they follow procedures.
That’s a good reason for those of us in Texas to not connect to the national grids.

3 weeks is on the SHORT END. Of course I’m joking about going to Sam’s...there’s 250,000 people in their market here in Texas - if luck holds, I’ll get a can of Pork and Beans.
But I do try to spell out the COMPLACENCY of most Americans when it comes to this danger - when Indians lived off the land, we had about 2 million people. Now we have 350 million - if we try to, again, live off the land, we’ll have to ‘liquidate’ about 99.5% of our people (by some means). So yes, with them gone, the supplies at Sam’s will probably help us, and we’ll be able to get through it. Needless to say, it’s not exactly clear how we’re going to choose the 0.5% of the people to not kill off.
Of course I’m joking...but the VAST MAJORITY of Americans do think like that. Sam’s is lucky to have enough inventory to last 3 days during NORMAL conditions...3 hours, at best, when the Shiite hits the fanatic
So, in all seriousness, if you have a vehicle that still runs after an EMP hit, and you have cash sitting around (if you don’t, you deserve your fate), you need to IMMEDIATELY run over to Sam’s with your cash and buy whatever they have. The people on the radio will be telling you to not worry, all will be fine - but an EMP hit is not hard to figure out, and the recovery is, literally, YEARS AWAY.

Why?
We rattle our sabres but we haven’t stepped an inch into North Korea. With all of the talking, nothing has changed.
What has North Korea and Iran to gain by setting off an EMP? Would they be safer? Would they be able to expand their influence in the world? Are these countries suicidal?
Kim might be crazy, but he is not stupid. The leaders of Iran might worship a false god...but they are not stupid.
What is their motivation for having their world annihilated?
The experts say if we get hit by an EMP there will only be 10% of the US population alive at the end of a year.
