Ted Cruz For Next SCOTUS Vacancy
Flopping Aces ^ | 04-22-17 | Daniel John Sobieski

While the chattering class was lamenting the delay on ObamaCare repeal and replace and promised tax reform, they ignored perhaps the most importance consequence of President Trump’s election, a major accomplishment in his first 100 days, the transformation of the Supreme Court into a conservative and constitutional bastion of freedom.

The appointment and confirmation of Judge Neil  Gorsuch has already borne fruit as he cast the deciding vote allowing the execution of multiple Arkansas death row inmates to proceed. As Bloomberg Politics reported:

Justice Neil Gorsuch took his first major action on the U.S. Supreme Court by casting the deciding vote to let Arkansas begin executing a group of death-row inmates.

In a series of orders Thursday night, the high court cleared the state to execute Ledell Lee, one of eight convicted murderers that Arkansas has been trying to put to death before one of its lethal-injection drugs expires at the end of the month. Arkansas executed Lee minutes after the court rejected the last of his requests.

No doubt this marks the beginning of the end for liberal activism and legislating from the bench in the nation’s federal courts, a trend that may accelerate with the possibility of an imminent vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court as hinted by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, at a National Association of Manufacturers event on Tuesday:
During a visit to Muscatine Tuesday morning, U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he expects a Supreme Court Justice resignation within the year.

"I would expect a resignation this summer," he said.

An upcoming resignation has been "rumored," he said, but he did not name a justice. The question was posed to him during a question-and-answer session at Kent Corporation headquarters, by Kent employees, National Association of Manufacturers members and elected officials at Kent Corporation headquarters.

A person would likely be nominated from the same list from which recently appointed Justice Neil Gorsuch was chosen, Grassley said, most of whom he said are well-qualified.

It would seem that “rumored” vacancy might be “swing-vote” Justice Anthony Kennedy, for whom Gorsuch once clerked. As reported by HotAir.com:
For the past few weeks, rumors have swirled around Washington that swing-vote Justice Anthony Kennedy wants to hang up his robe and ride off into the sunset. He hasn’t interviewed prospective clerks for the next session, and has moved up his traditional five-year summer reunions for past clerks up a year. The New York Times speculated at the end of January that Donald Trump’s nomination of Neil Gorsuch was intended in part to signal to Kennedy that Trump would replace him with a serious jurist.
During the transition,  among the many somewhat surprising visitors to Trump Tower was Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a former Trump presidential rival with whom unpleasant commentaries were exchanged. Politics does indeed make strange bedfellows and if we have seen anything since November 8 it is that President Trump has proven more magnanimous and less vindictive than both his political opponents and media critics have painted him.

Gorsuch was on the list or 21 names Trump had announced for Supreme Court consideration, a list that made most conservatives ecstatic.  Ted Cruz’s name was not, although Cruz ally was on Trump’s short list for SCOTUS Cruz would make a great second pick – a constitutional originalist in the Scalia mode who actually worked with Scalia to save the Second Amendment..

The broad swath of GOP control at all levels of government presents a huge opportunity to, as Trump promised, to drain the swamp. Already we have a very real prospect of repealing and replacing ObamaCare, of enacting pro-growth tax reform, rebuilding the military, securing our borders, and, yes, putting the Supreme Court on the right path for generations.

The prospect of restoring and protecting religious liberty and the Second Amendment and reigning in the regulatory excesses of federal agencies is at hand. Ted Cruz, who campaigned with Vice President-elect Mike Pence for Trump in Iowa, has pledged to work with Trump on Supreme Court appointments, tweeting after their meeting:

If Cruz was offered he may well take it. But imo Cruz has no desire to be on SCOTUS.
He would be removed from the political aspect, not lobbied for a vote, tied down in
that he couldn't be amongst the traveling circus and curtailed from politicking.
Cruz wants to be amongst the populace not in a closed enviorment.

If Trump wants to put his name on the list, ok. It’s his call, I don’t have the data to compare Cruz vs the other highly qualified candidates Trump has in mind and wouldn’t give him one iota of preference because of his political activities. Justices are not supposed to be political, so his experience running for the Senate and President is no mre relevant than experience running a backhoe.

Senator Ted Cruz is a Constitutional Scholar who started a run for President of the United States while he was a Citizen of Canada from a period in time when Canada did not have dual citizenship, and his birth, as an American born abroad, was not registered with the American Consulate in Calgary, Alberta.

His mother knew this was registration was required because she had done it for a previous birth while she was in England. Canadian health care at the time of his birth was only provided to Canadian citizens, and there are several other evidences that both she and her husband became Canadian citizens. So when she reentered the USA with little Teddy and said she was still an American Citizen, she committed immigration fraud, and that makes Senator Ted Cruz a “dreamer”.

I addition, we have reported current opposition to the border wall in Texas, after leading people to believe that he supported it. We have his ties to Goldman Sacks, and his reported use of his Senatorial position to get business for his wife at GS.

There is really no need to explore his connections to the Bush Clay Shaw operation of the Deep State.

So I think President Trump should stick with his original list of 21, now 20, potential candidates for the Supreme Court.

Question: did Pres Trump say that the list was for every vacancy he would fill or was the promise only for the Scalia seat? I am asking because I cannot remember.
He probably has wiggle room on that - but IMHO he would be ill-advised to stretch the point. When he picks from the list, he can say that that list was elected when he was - and anyone who claims that a member of that list is “out of the mainstream” already had their chance to make that point. Before the election, they should have pointed out what they thought was wrong with the listed people.

The fact that they didn’t do that speaks volumes about who is - and who is not - “mainstream."

It wouldn't be a bad pick, but is Trump really going to nominate someone to the Supreme Court who was born in Canada and a Canadian citizen until very recently? Cruz may think he is eligible but I don't think its right.

That’s a good summary. What is indisputable is that Cruz is a NBC of Canada. So far the sum total of the citizenship records he’s released is a Canadian BC. There is more in his file than that. Why keep the rest of the info under wraps?

Amen....could not agree more. More egregiously, Cruz refused to endorse Trump even at the convention.

Cruz said execrable things about the president.

HERE'A CRUZ BLASTING TRUMP IN MAY 2016 DURING THE PRIMARY.

Ted Cruz accused Donald Trump of being a "pathological liar," "utterly amoral," "a narcissist at a level I don't think this country's ever seen" and "a serial philanderer."

Yes, things are said in the heat of battle.

But Cruz's dramatic and deeply personal attack on Trump was calculatedly timed.......it came as polls indicated Trump was poised to claim victory in Cruz's must-win state of Indiana.

The epic takedown by Trump was extraordinary ....and loser Cruz was having none of it......after circling the bowl, he was now in the toilet.

The despicable Cruz also stole Trump's delegates.

And outrageously....he pulled a fast one, he deliberately lied to steal Dr Ben Carson's black votes........dishonestly stating that the good Doctor had dropped out.

These are not the actions one wants to see in a Supreme Curt Justice.

I don't know the details of when and how Ted Cruz became a citizen, but we have had foreign-born justices of the Supreme Court before.

Felix Frankfurter, who was born in Vienna, Austria, was the most famous -- and not an awful justice, in spite of being appointed by FDR.

Whoever is chosen to be Trump’s second pick will have to go through a rectal exam of monumental proportions, way worse than Bork received.

Cruz already has a job waiting...when they throw him out of the Senate where he is universally abhorred.

Nowadays, onetime Cruz supporters in Texas are airing their gripes----many are p!ssed at Cruz for not disclosing that, as a Texas Senate candidate, he was still a Canadian citizen.

As a US Senate Candidate in Texas, Cruz heaped a load OF BS on Texas voters:

<><> "I didn't know I was a Canadian citizen when I ran for the Senate until the media exposed it."

<><> "I told Texas voters wifey and I were liquidating family assets so I could get into the Senate. "

<><> "I didn't know I was supposed to tell the FEC I borrowed over a million from my Wall Street margin accounts to fund my campaign. "

<><> "I told Mark Levin the borrowed funds were used for campaign ads....but I didn't report this as required."

<><> And so on and so forth, ad infinitum, ad nauseaum.

BACKSTORY--In Texas, Cruz/s Senate election fairy tale has become legendary......portraying himself to trusting Texans as a scrappy populist putting everything on the line to overcome a wealthy establishment opponent.

He was whining in the media, telling trusting Texans that he, and his faithful little wife (a $700,000 globalist lawyer employed by G/S), were forced to liquidate their entire family savings (of slightly more than $1 million) to fuel a come-from- behind win in the Republican primary. =====================================

NOW TEXANS LEARN Cruz did not liquidate family assets.....he got his hands on over a million dollars from his hefty margin accounts at G/S and Citibank......and did not disclose this on FEC reports (to keep it a secret from trusting Texans).

Cruz did not disclose loans on FEC reports (required by law) b/c Texans would have discovered he was not the aw-shucks rube he pretended to be. He continued the rube act in order to milk votes from trusting Texans.

At the same time, he also did not disclose he was a Canadian citizen......the Harvard-educated lawyer w/ two Ivy League degrees said he didn't know.

When the Dallas Morning News published Cruz/s Canadian birth certificate, Cruz put trusting Texans through the charade of renouncing his Canadian citizenship.....even though Canada did not recognize dual citizenship at the time of his birth.

=============================================

Cruz got clobbered a long time ago...he just hasn't hit the floor, yet. God willing, he'll never see the inside of the USSC.

NO WAY!

Not qualified

Not a constitutionalist, since he thinks the president can be born in CANADA.

#NeverTrumper who embarrassed Trump to his face at the convention.

Trump knows that when he brought him in that he was a snake.

I don’t know. Those tea leaves about Kennedy seem pretty hard to read /sarc/ Under the circumstances we’ll cheerfully have back Mr. Reagan’s third choice for the spot Bork should have had.

“Cruz already has a job waiting...when they throw him out of the Senate where he is universally abhorred.”

The Senate is made up of democrats and RINOS, GOPe. There are very few real conservatives in the Senate. Of course a real conservative like Cruz will be disliked by the democrats, RINOs, and GOPe, the majority of the Senate!

The majority of the Senate abhors Cruz because the majority of the Senate are democrats, RINOs, and GOPe.
