Jay Z and the Weinstein Co. are partnering to tell Trayvon Martins story on the big and small screens.
EW has confirmed that the rap mogul and the studio have secured the rights to two books about Martin, the unarmed black Florida teenager who was fatally shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer in 2012, igniting a national debate about racial profiling and civil rights.
The plan is to develop a narrative film and a six-part docuseries about Martin based on the books Suspicion Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice and Why We Continue to Repeat It, by civil rights attorney and NBC News analyst Lisa Bloom, and Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, by Martins parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin.
Jay Z signed a first-look deal with TWC in the fall, and he and studio chief Harvey Weinstein produced the recent prison reform docuseries Time: The Kalief Browder Story. The Weinstein Co. also distributed the critically acclaimed 2013 film Fruitvale Station about the fatal shooting of another unarmed young black man, Oscar Grant.
Variety first reported the news.
St Skittles was nothining more that your garden variety fatherless raise woman who didn’t give a damn, hood-Rat
There are literally millions just like him.
If the truth isn’t on your side go to Hollywood.
Certainly a balanced accounting that can be used in future research! Right? Right?
That’s a short 3 minute film
lazy, uninteresting kid with chip on shoulder buys skittles. Is approached by neighborhood watch guy with gun. Gets in fight. Is shot dead.
That’s a rap video, not a documentary or movie.
He is still very, very very very dead....But man, did you see how cool he looked in a hoodie?
Dumb question:
The apartment complex had a lot of problems with theft (402 police calls in a year) BEFORE St. Trayvon started enjoying Purple Drank in the afterlife...
Did their crime problem go down afterward?
I can only imagine the sainthood they will bestow upon this street thug.................
I even have the tag line for the movie;
“No matter what, ignore the court testimony.”
Weinstein Co? Doesn’t one of Obama’s daughters work for him choosing scripts?
Just can’t wait till all this crap comes out. Nothing will please me more than Jay Z finding new ways to exploit and manipulate black people to raise the outrage levels.
We’ll all be better off for these meaningful artistic endeavors.
Money walks bs talks.
I can see the promos for the movie. Trayvon’s trading card will give his stats as 1-1 in the knockout game.
Skittles and Robitussin.
There, adjusted the details for ya.
Followed next year by the Saint Michael Brown story.
(Bring back the 1950s-—please.)
.
Yeah, that film will be an example of intellect and logic that will be unequalled for years (no, make that picoseconds) to come.
Jay Z, what a “talent”. I’m sure that 100 year from now his “music” will be considered classic. No, wait, make that assic.
Gabourey Sidibe is an automatic choice for the burnt-out bulb known as Rachel Jenteal.
Rachel reminds me of an infant who crawled around the floor dining on lead paint chips.
Nobody can tell the story of life in the hood like a music producer.
