Hillary Clinton, still sorting through the wreckage of her 2016 presidential campaign, recently had former aides on her campaign team meet with outside strategists and consultants to look at what went wrong.
For months, Clinton and her top aides have blamed their devastating loss on FBI Director James Comey and Russias interference in the presidential election. While their outlook hasnt changed, Clinton still wanted a thorough, detailed post-mortem of the campaign.
The meeting an echo of similar efforts done after Clinton lost the 2008 Democratic primary to Barack Obama was an attempt to dot all the i's and cross all the ts," said one source familiar with the fact-finding mission. But I dont think anyone learned all that much.
Another ally added, It wasnt fun for the people who had to sit through it.
Behind the scenes, the former Democratic nominee has spent the last few months reaching out to donors, associates and friends, many of whom have given their own two cents on the loss.
She has tried her best to get a full account of what went wrong and where she could have done better, one longtime friend said.
The finger pointing began the day after the election and has continued inside Clintons orbit.
Late last month, Lynn de Rothschild, a donor and friend of Clintons, took to Twitter to blast campaign chairman John Podesta for the defeat.
HRC lost because you ran an arrogant out of touch campaign, she wrote before calling him a loser.
In the days and weeks following her surprise loss, allies say it was difficult for Clinton to read the headlines. Instead, she went on long walks in and around her home Chappaqua, N.Y. and out to dinner with her husband. She caught The Color Purple and Sunset Boulevard on Broadway and went grocery shopping for the first time in months.
But those who have spoken to her since then say shes trying her best to move on from the bruising campaign.
Shes in a much better place than she was in two months ago, said one confidant who has spoken to her in the last few weeks. I think shes very much forward-thinking and -looking than people think she is right now.
I dont think shes obsessing about the past but shes focused on a country-first type thing, the confidant added.
To that point, those around her say Clinton has taken it upon herself to not let Trump go unanswered. And in a string of posts on Twitter, she has been criticizing the president on a variety of issues, from the rise in domestic hate crimes to the travel ban.
After a federal appeals court refused to reinstate Trumps travel bad, the president took to Twitter: SEE YOU IN COURT, THE SECURITY OF OUR NATION IS AT STAKE! he wrote.
Clinton had her own reply: 3-0 she taunted, referring to the three judge panel on the US Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco that ruled against him.
Her daughter, Chelsea, has also been hitting Trump on Twitter, a pivot from her past use of social media (and leading some to believe that she has her sites set on her own political career.)
Its as if the administration doesnt understand the H, the B, the C, or the U (or understand why HBCUs were started & remain vital), the former first daughter tweeted earlier this week about Trump, referring to Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Lately, though, the biggest I-told-you-so from the Clintons and their allies is the continuing story about the Trump campaigns ties to Russia.
For months, in private conversations, Clinton has griped about Trumps connection to Russian President Vladimir Putin and suggested that no one seemed to care about it during the election.
At a gathering with donors in December, she was blunt. Putin publicly blamed me for the outpouring of outrage by his own people that is the direct line between what he said back then and what he did in this election, Clinton said, according to audio obtained by the New York Times.
Months later, the former secretary of State is still plotting her next moves. Its unclear if she will continue the work she started at the Clinton Foundation prior to launching her presidential campaign or if shell take on other work, those around her say. And while some have suggested a run for mayor of New York is possible, those close to her say she isnt interested.
In the meantime, she has made several appearances on the speaking circuit, including one this week at Wellesley College, her alma mater.
And even all these months later, she cant escape questions about what went wrong.
Asked at Wellesley what shed change about her campaign, Clinton replied: Id win.
Why don't you get that ?
Two qualities that neither Bill or ILLary possess.
She should be getting used to prison life. After years of flouting our laws, she is the poster child for our rotten justice system.
At the Wellesley event, which was closed to the press, she never mentioned Russia.
Not once.
Instead, disgracefully, she blamed her loss on her gender.
>> I dont think shes obsessing about the past but shes focused on a country-first type thing, the confidant added.
Hahaha. 4 months after the election and she’s still brooding about it. That sounds like obsessing to me.
>> And in a string of posts on Twitter, she has been criticizing the president on a variety of issues, from the rise in domestic hate crimes to the travel ban.
You can bet that whatever she’s talking about or tweeting about is something that the Dems have a hand in. If she’s tweeting about hate crimes, then my bet is that the dems are creating a lot of fake hate crimes. Like that reporter who was sending bomb threats to Jewish centers and turned out to be a lefty.
>> she has her sites set on her own political career
That would be “sights”. The liberal “elites” want to run our lives, but don’t have a basic grasp of English.
>> Historically Black Colleges and Universities
The left thinks these should be sacred, yet HWCUs would be a bad thing
>> Lately, though, the biggest I-told-you-so from the Clintons and their allies is the continuing story about the Trump campaigns ties to Russia.
Again, look to the left. Whatever they are accusing you of, they are guilty of many times over.
>> And while some have suggested a run for mayor of New York is possible, those close to her say she isnt interested.
Translation: We’re floating this balloon to see how well it flies. She doesn’t want to risk another humiliating defeat. She wants a sure win.
Say it enough times and people believe it? I'm still wondering why the democrats never denied the author of the damaging emails was actually Podesta, DWS, Buffalo Brazile. . . as well, tell me again how the Russians switched all those votes in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Iowa and Arizona from Mrs Clinton to DJT - waiting
Her new life should be living at the Graybar hotel.
5.56mm
Pretty soon, she’ll be showing up in TV commercials promoting the advantages of a reverse mortgage.
Hillary isn’t even coming close to coming to terms with her loss in the past election. This person has a lot of crimes that she needs to answer for and I hope she gets her just desserts soon.
Now she will be getting used to spending her ill gotten gain. She should getting used to wearing orange jump suits. She is a Traitor and involved with murder and should be in jail for the rest of her life.
WHAT WENT WRONG? You need experts to tell you what went wrong. You ran a turd for a candidate is what went wrong.
“......behind bars.)
Well said!!!
But I dont think anyone learned all that much.
As soon as Hillary walked in the room...you had your answer.
Coming to terms should be a life term. The MSM will keep resurrecting that bitch ad nuaseum
My goodness, this article is just full of lies.
1) Hillary is a nasty, unpleasant woman who could give no positive, concrete reasons to vote for her. She has never accomplished anything independently, but used her husband to get ahead. Without him, no one would have ever heard of her. Speaking of which, now that she lost, are the Clintons still going to keep up the pretext that they are married?
2) Why the continued harping on the imaginary collusion between Trump and Russia? Is it to try to make us forget that Hillary personally gained millions by selling a large chunk of our uranium supply to Russia? Hillary should be in jail for this! Plus, the investigation conducted on behalf of the Hillary campaign, which wasted who knows how much taxpayer money, showed nothing and was clearly nothing more than a fishing expedition—give it up already! Evidence that Trump colluded with Russia the way Hillary did does not exist and will not spring into being just because you keep pounding this dead horse! Just stop!
3) Can we please just stop wasting time and investigate Hillary already? She caused our ambassador to be murdered. She benefitted from a thinly disguised money laundering scheme for decades. As the saying goes, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And there is plenty of smoke here, which is why Hillary keeps trying to blame it on Trump.
Donald should ask for the Foundation funds to pay down the debt. After all, they were government bribes. Let’s put the money to good use
Hill had a sex change?
