President Trump exploded on Twitter early Saturday morning, blasting former President Barack Obama for allegedly wire tapping his phones before the election.
“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” he declared.
“Is it legal for a sitting President to be ‘wire tapping’ a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!” he added.
Trump has the authority to declassify almost any classified material, and could substantiate his accusations if he wanted to.
The Saturday-morning Twitter storm was striking as Trump and Obama had largely appeared to paper over their differences — at least publicly — since the election.

This is BY FAR the most serious accusation a POTUS has leveled against a predecessor. This is truly a historic moment, for good and bad. Sure hope Team Trump has all key facts and players on board, bc this is now a scorched earth campaign (good thing).

Yes, it should be illegal, but it is not if permission is obtained from the FISA Court.
That is how and why the whole Russian theme came to be. In had to be substantial to get the FISA Court to authorize the wiretap.
The “crime” was not in getting the wiretap. Barky did it legally. The crime was using false information to substantiate and request it. Obama’s court denied it the first time and he narrowed the request (probably as advised) and resubmitted it.

A couple of weeks later, the reality is out and Trump was right again.
The FISA Court initially denied the tap. Only after the warrant was narrowed did they allow it. The issue here is once they allowed it how far was it expanded beyond the scope of the narrowed warrant? In either case the tapping of political opponents is illegal but this should not surprise anyone considering the history of this admin and targeting political opponents such as the Tea Party. Obummer plays by Chicago rules and a few officials are sitting in jail right now playing those rules.
Obama can say it was all legal, but it doesn't pass the smell test. How much of the content of the wire taps was shared with the Hillary campaign?
I would assume that the redacted FISA court documentation can be declassified and released. We have never to my knowledge ever had the WH wire tapping a political opponent in a Presidential race. As Joe Biden said, the is a BFD.
