A quick Google search for ‘ugliest aircraft carrier’ supplies a number of suggestions. The IJN is recognized as having entire classes of ugly carriers. I’m still looking for the unmistakeable pantsuit pennant hoisted on her ratlines to find the actual ship.
The only thing I know about Japanese WW II ships is the old mnemonic:
"The Nips' big cruisers' forward stack
is always fat and falling back."
