The Washington Post reported Tuesday evening https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/resistance-from-within-federal-workers-push-back-against-trump/2017/01/that there is a growing wave of opposition from the federal workers charged with implementing President Donald Trumps agenda.
What Breitbart News called the coup of the bureaucrats earlier this week is well under way, with apparent coordination by former Obama administration officials working on the outside:
(snip)
..... As former Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services Tevi Troy wrote recently, in recalling challenges George W. Bush faced in confronting the bureaucracy, firing is usually not an option: Another thing we learned about early on was the lifetime tenure rulestechnically known as civil-service protections. These rules made it exceedingly difficult to fire even obstinate and uncooperative career officials. It was easier, he said, to find ways to work around particular employees and offices. He advises......
There is another option: have Congress cut the departments, or parts of them. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is looking for ways to trim spending, and President Trump has some new spending priorities, like the border wall, infrastructure, and the military.
Both would welcome opportunities to get rid of federal excess. .....

IIRC, didn’t JFK allow federal unions via executive order? Hmmm.
Cut the entire department, offer an Early Out and make it clear if they don’t take it they’ll wish they did, like they could be sent up to one hundred miles away, then create a new department with a new name and additional responsibilities so it’s not the same thing, and start hiring again and know who you’re hiring.
And if that didn't work, they were sent to the worst, most distant assignments possible to get rid of them.
Tell the guy that's trouble at the EPA, that global cooling seems to be coming back, so his new workplace is in Nome, Alaska so he can be close to the problem when he studies it.
I worked for the federal bureaucracy. No need to fire them. Have the head person create alternative positions in the basement of the building with a desk and no phone and keep paying them. If you can’t fire them, you can put them on ice.
That's the definition of an out of control monster.
Smog so thick that it can be cut with a knife.... yup, that needs regulation. But not by-products of natural processes.
Seniority will take care of the "New Hires". Chances are few Obama "New Employees" will have Veteran Preference!
It is not a “coup” that is in progress. It is like a mud flow, apparently slow and inexorable, but really pretty rapid and still inexorable. Cleaning out and circumscribing the Agencies and Departments is, in the long run, futile. Their emaciated husks will return full of vigor and oppression so long as the framework still exists. They have to be abolished and all their employees returned to civilian life with no severance pay, no further bonuses at all. They, down to the lowliest sinecure clerk, should not be rewarded by retirement or any other valuable gifts from the taxpayers for their service to Leviathan. Exempted should be the original four Departments and none other.
Don’t cut, except as preliminary to Uproot.
Anything less than 100% leaves that piece of root that will grow again into a mighty Smilax vine that will quickly entangle and choke everything in its rapidly expanding purview. Excise it altogether.
Is their paperwork for beneficiaries up to date? Send them a timely memo to jog their faculties.
Could take years waiting for their opening for litigation, were enough sent walking.
Farm them out to assist with China’s air quality!
Something Trump ought to target with an executive order of his own.
Not only that, they can use the JFK trick. When he didn’t like what he was getting from the Bureau of the Budget (whcih had a lot of Republicans in it). he had it abolished and immediately replaced by the Office of Management and Budget. They stocked OMB with Democrats.
For starters. I have a lot more I’d like to see gone.
President Reagan tried to get rid of EPA. Do you know who he hired to do it?
