Sarah Palin: But… Wait… The Good Guys Won’t Win With More Crony Capitalism
Youngcons.com ^ | 12/02/2016 | Governor Sarah Palin

Posted on 12/02/2016 3:03:27 PM PST by MadIsh32

When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent.

Meanwhile, the invisible hand that best orchestrates a free people’s free enterprise system gets amputated. Then, special interests creep in and manipulate markets. Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead, we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail.

Governor Palin doesn't seem happy that she hasn't been tapped for a cabinet post yet

The carrier deal is not crony capitalism

She is right, and presumably the Trump program for keeping jobs here is going to be based on allowing profits overseas to be repatriated, cutting corporate rates, and eliminating laws and regulations. That should work quite well. Trump can’t control whether individual states give subsidies, but they shouldn’t.

No. I’m the opposite of a NWO, globalist, etc. etc.

The USA was made great by rule of law, etc. Companies can plan their road to profitability in the United States without fear of prejudice or interference. Same with individual people.

Decisions affecting individual companies or factories are antithetical to what made America great.

BTW, I’m a very big fan of Trump. I’m still 100% in.

If i’m not mistaken Trump said he would easing regulations and overhauling the corporate tax code. This is what made the company say

>> But know that fundamentally, political intrusion using a stick or carrot to bribe or force one individual business to do what politicians insist, versus establishing policy incentivizing our ENTIRE ethical economic engine to roar back to life, isn’t the answer. <<

Looks like it may be time to ban Gov. Palin from FR. She obviously isn’t displaying proper obeisance to the Trump Program.

I fail to see why so called Trump supporters can not see that there are only a few options to Trump until he gets in office.

He used what he has well.

When he gets the full power of the presidency, I am sure he will also use them well.

Kind of silly to expect him to make the moves he would make as president while he is still president elect.

And you say this based upon....? Did we all miss where whatever benefit\gift\reduction\etc. was given across the board?

Obviously she’s been told she won’t get a position. Who can blame her for being pissed. Never trump scum like Chau and Haley waltz into high level cabinet jobs (after praying that trump would lose) while she doesn’t even get an intereview.

Here’s the thing.....

The business was on it’s way out, leaving many people unemployed. It was not so much giving some business an advantage over another - it was a last ditch effort to get a company to stay.

If the taxes were fair to all businesses, and the regulations were not causing them to flee, such a deal as this would not have even be required. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Not enough time to wait for the laws to change to keep this company. Once the laws are friendly toward business, this will no longer be needed.

It’s my understanding that it’s tax breaks.

in which case, it’s the company’s money to begin with! The Government is merely agreeing to stop confiscating so much of it.

This is good.

If you are aware of something else, please inform me.

Republicans don’t oppose crony capitalism; conservatives do. Trump is not a conservative, and Palin sold out her principles by backing Trump over Cruz - so I don’t care what she has to say anymore. I’m done with her as well as with every other fool who jumped on the phony progressive-populist-agrarian-nationalist bandwagon.

I think I agree with you; but this is how I heard it. Trump called the head guy at United Technologies (who own Carrier), and told them he was going to lower taxes, change regulations, etc., etc. Then Trump ask him, “does that interest you ..??” The guy replied, “it sure does” .. I’ll get back to you”.

The guy called back, and ask for more details; then he told Trump; OKAY .. WE’LL KEEP THE 1100 HERE AND ONLY SEND THE 600, TO RUN THE OTHER PLANT. Trump agreed with his plan.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this.

And .. it was the STATE of INDIANA who offered the extra tax breaks .. not the Feds.

It is a tax break from the state of Indiana over 10 years. There is nothing crony about it. States do this a lot more often than you think as incentives for businesses. This isn’t something new.

The debate of ideas goes on. It’s called “freedom of speech”.

Technically, Sarah Palin is right. In a perfect world, every company should get exactly the same treatment, there shouldn’t be any special tax deals for just one company.

But, it’s an imperfect world, and right now Trump is still, legally, just an ordinary citizen with few legislative powers. That’ll change on Jan. 20th, when he gets some tools that can change the situation for ALL companies – like reforming the inefficient tax code and rolling back oppressive regulations, which cost companies money.

But for now, he did what he could. Can’t do it this way for every company, obviously.

I don’t think this is cronyism but I agree with your post.

He is already elected. We can stop giving him a pass and kissing his @$$ and start holding his feet to the fire. He isn’t a conservative and never has been. Anyone that says different is deluding themselves. But he does have a lot of good ideas. So we can cheer the good ideas and try to hold him accountable for bad ones. We can do that with a clear head IF we don’t lie to each other and pretend he is the second coming. He isn’t. He has a lot of good points but anyone that pretends he has no bad points is a freaking idiot and self deluded.

Sure hew as the best candidate to get elected in awhile. But that is a pretty damn low bar.

Hopefully the mass delusion here that he is perfect in every way will start to fade soon. We had the same arguments with deluded sheep about Bush II and McCain. But those voices eventually faded away when reality set in. Lets all get past that phase and back to being conservatives that hold Washington accountable to CONSERVATISM and not ‘whatever Trump said this week’.
