The Snake is a song and single released by American singer Al Wilson in 1968, and written by Oscar Brown in 1963. The lyrics tell a story inspired by Aesops fable of The Farmer and the Viper.
Republican candidate Donald Trump read the lyrics at several campaign rallies to illustrate his position on the Syrian refugee crisis.
Trump read The Snake at his Bloomington, Illinois earlier this year.

On her way to work one morning
Down the path along side the lake
A tender hearted woman saw a poor half frozen snake
His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew
Oh well, she cried, Ill take you in and Ill take care of you
Take me in oh tender woman
Take me in, for heavens sake
Take me in oh tender woman, sighed the snakeShe wrapped him up all cozy in a curvature of silk
And then laid him by the fireside with some honey and some milk
Now she hurried home from work that night as soon as she arrived
She found that pretty snake shed taking in had been revived
Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heavens sake
Take me in oh tender woman, sighed the snakeNow she clutched him to her bosom, Youre so beautiful, she cried
But if I hadnt brought you in by now you might have died
Now she stroked his pretty skin and then she kissed and held him tight
But instead of saying thanks, that snake gave her a vicious bite
Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heavens sake
Take me in oh tender woman, sighed the snakeI saved you, cried that woman
And youve bit me even, why?
You know your bite is poisonous and now Im going to die
Oh shut up, silly woman, said the reptile with a grin
You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in.
There are reports this week that Mitt Romney is a leading candidate for Secretary of State in the Trump administration.
Mitt Romney was a top critic of Donald Trump during the campaign. His quotes made it into several Hillary ads against Donald Trump.
Trump supporters unanimously hate the idea.
I think Romney is a mistake. Fools gold glitters, too, but it’s still fool’s gold.
Silly FREEPER!
Keep your friends close and your enemies CLOSER!
GROW UP and learn how the world works!!
What does keep you friends close but you enemies closer mean?
Wake up folks! This is Donald Trump’s Objective!!
Enemies are people that could do you emotional, physical or any kind of harm, so you want to keep a real close eye on them to make sure they don’t. It’s “watching your back” There is the fact that the better you know your enemy, the better you can defend yourself against him. Then there is the possibility that the better you understand him and his motivations, the better the chance of resolving the conflict happily for both sides
Funny cartoon. I will not get uptight over romney. Sessions and bannon make me so happy that i will take anything else. As far as haley at the un... who cares.
Not to equate the two, but Lincoln’s arch-rival was William H. Seward, who said unkind things about him when they were both competing for the 1860 Republican nomination. Still, he made him his Secretary of State. At first Seward continued to consider himself Lincoln’s superior. But Seward soon learned who the superior was, and he actually turned out to be a very supportive and useful SOS.
Under MY thumb!....get it?
Still waiting for a Trumpian "unexpected" pick.
That’s illogical in team building. A team should not include an enemy.
Clever but that’s all emotional BS over campaign stuff. Romney is a smart guy, proven entrepreneur and turnaround expert who bulit “a fantastic company” and a Governor who made it to the top of the political game. That gets him an interview. In a meritocracy you don’t operate like children who hold grudges, you hire the best person available for a job and Romney may or may not be that person. Unlike many here, I do not believe I am smarter that Trump and his team, have access to his thoughts, plans, and information, nor do I know any of these people personally. I trust his judgement.
What would you like him to hire Hillary Clinton for?
I don’t trust Romney... I don’t even like him.
I think people are getting way too worked up about this. A day or two ago, Michelle Rhee was a lock for Dept. of Education according to the Old Media. Who knows what’ll happen with DoS?
I suspect Trump is playing a version of "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer". It somewhat nullifies a lot of the criticisms leveled at him during the campaign.
Lincoln also was able to figure out what to not take seriously from Seward too.
Personally, I would be vindictive and not forgive Romney. But Trump is a businessman who knows how to put aside personal feelings to employ the best person for the job. I trust Trump’s judgment.
I’ve tweeted him a number of times today
Don’t. For a minute. Underestimate. Trump.
I am pretty sure that whatever advice Trump gets from his cabinet members, he will have healthy skepticism about it. I agree that I don’t know the people like Trump does. I do think, however, that Trump not being Obama is the big key here, moreso than whom he appoints.
