PHILADELPHIA (CNN) — Donald Trump on Thursday offered up his most detailed prescriptions yet to address the student debt crisis, proposing an income-based cap on student loan payments and an ambitious student loan forgiveness program.

Trump, in a meandering speech to a group of rowdy high school and college students, called for a single student loan repayment plan capped at 12.5% of a borrowers’ income and suggested borrowers would see their student debt forgiven after 15 years of making full payments.

“We’re going to work it out. It’ll be a negotiation,” Trump said, prompting one student to shout out “Art of the Deal!”

“We’re going to work it out big league,” Trump added....

I hate to break this to you, but if you default... and then make good payments for 6 months or so, you can get your loans forgiven today... Ex used to work with folks who defaulted on loans, literally all they had to do was make new agreement, pay for 6 months and then ask for forgiveness and it would be written completely off..

What the US really needs is to stop sending people who truly don’t belong in college to college... but that’s a discussion for another time.

Well looks like once again I have to vote against somebody rather than for somebody.

National debt of $20T, unfunded liabilities of $125T, 67% of Fedzilla budget non-discretionary (read: entitlements), health-care system imploding, massive illegal immigration, destabilized Middle East with ISIS on the rise, Europe falling into chaos....Shall I go on?

The “student loan crisis” should be one of the least of your worries.

Costs for colleges never decrease and productivity never increases. Along with easy money for students to spend makes it double tough to reign in the price for higher learning. An interesting lesson in economics.

“The solution is to simply end all federal government involvement in education. The funding, the regulations. From Head Start to people getting their Ph Ds. End it all.”

Exactly.

borrowers would see their student debt forgiven after 15 years of making full payments. “We’re going to work it out. It’ll be a negotiation,” Trump said,

As long as the negotiation ends on, say, thirty years of full payments.

That is charitable of me. I worked and sacrificed to pay my loans off. It sucked and I still bear the scars, but it taught me another facet of discipline. I have no sympathy for those who choose a silly course of study and find themselves buried under a mountain of debt when they realize their degree in the linguistics of latent lesbianism isn't marketable.

I bet it is among Trump’s least concerns; but he needs the millennial vote, and that haplessly mush-brained generation is just gullible enough to respond to something like this.

Honestly, I would be ok with this if we deny student loans for degrees that don’t have an Return on Investment.

If the amount of incremental income from a degree isn’t projected to pay off the loan in 15 years, no loan for you.

Worth every penny to keep the 2nd amendment

An interesting way to look at his proposal. Can't say I disagree with your stance.

If the deal involves a bunch of funding cuts to useless liberal nonsense programs that plague public universities, then count me in ... it’ll be less expensive doing things this way vs. piles and piles of defaults that will triple-screw us!

Can you find one source proving this program? The only school loan debt forgiveness I am aware of involves certain types of service.

Dem Lite never wins over the real thing.

There is one -- and only one! -- issue that matters this time: Illegal immigration. You think Trump is "Dem Lite" on illegal immigration?

Check out all the electoral analysis this time around. Note all the formerly safe red states that are now purple or blue. Do you know why, for the most part, that is?

If we don't get control of the borders now, everything else is moot. Four more years of this open-borders madness with an HRC amnesty, and you will never be able to elect a conservative, even as dog catcher, anywhere.

Yes, I think he is going after millennials...and that’s good, because he needs them.

They don’t realize it yet, but they need him too.
