One of the biggest ironies of the first presidential debate is that Donald Trumps reluctance to aggressively attack Hillary Clinton has now given him the license to fully do so.
Going into the debate his debut on the worlds biggest stage everyone, including his closest aides, was telling him that he must achieve plausibility: That is, he needed to reassure voters by looking reasonable, confident and self-possessed. If he were able to demonstrate an even temperament and basic command of the issues, voters could picture him behind the Resolute desk in the Oval Office and Mrs. Clintons negative ads about his unfitness would melt away.
Mr. Trump took his marching orders seriously and pulled his punches, at one point even acknowledging his self-restraint: I was going to say something really rough about Hillary and her family, but I told myself it was not nice. But she spent tons of money on horrible ads about me, and Ive spent virtually nothing.
Many are now demanding that he truly go on the attack. Since its in the political bloodstream that he did not hit her proactively the last time, he now has a free hand to up the ante without being stigmatized as an unsuitable hothead...

Donald Trumps secret weapon for Debate No. 2
This is it! Ambassador Stevens masks for the audience!
Maybe on how badly the Clinton foundation treated Haiti and now that country is going to beg for help again after this Hurricane Mathew.
Wait a minute. Is this from “go to the transcript Monica” Crowley?
He got no credit for being mr. Rogers so I agree. I want scorched earth ( buy the book). I want the full Monte on this criminal lying sick bitch. GET IT ON!!
Monica not Candy.
I hope he will hit her record and positions very hard but not attack her as a person at all. She’s a liar, a sleaze, a criminal, and a tyrant-wannabe, but he should let his description of her positions convey that message.
Why mention that she’s one of a former president’s many ex-girlfriends, or that she’s a predator who violated her husband’s victims far more severely than the Rapist-in-Chief ever did? The personal attacks have already taken effect or never will. He should go after her on the issues and on her record, although with prepared parallels between his own tax conduct that she will attack him on and her own record of deducting donations of used underwear from their taxes.
All that he has to do is hammer her on:
1) Her utter and complete corruption;
2) Her incompetence as Secretary of State;
3) Her plans to bring in hundreds of thousands of people from the Mideast and to not close the gates anywhere else; and
4) Her failure to put forth a coherent economic plan that actually has a chance to put people to work.
Attack her on THOSE points, and ignore or deflect questions on fat hoes of drug lords, tax returns and the like. Turn every answer toward her incompetence, unfitness for office and corruption. EVERY ANSWER.
He need not (and should not) be nasty - just firm, resolute and unending in his criticism of her abilities, plans and moral character.
I heard GALLUP is going to pick the questions from the audience! If so it could be a fair thing instead of the Networks picking!
Well, it’s not a secret any more!
Sic 'em Donald!!!
Trump needs to win Florida to win.
The polls are in a dead heat in Florida.
Trump needs to put most ads in Florida
Finish her Donald:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“... Since its in the political bloodstream that he did not hit her proactively the last time, he now has a free hand to up the ante without being stigmatized as an unsuitable hothead”...
Kick her Treasonous ass, Donald! ~
Go, Trump, GO!
Agreed! Two things he should have swung HARD at- the witch’s contention that the Great Recession had ANYTHING to do with tax cuts, and re Miss Universe, the important thing which Trump completely ignored is that she became a US citizen because her native Venezuela is a FAILED STATE due to the sort of economics that Hillary and the Democrats just can’t get enough of!
Go for the throat!

Dagnabbit! Somebody other than Scott Adams and me, FINALLY GOT IT RIGHT!
Trump won the first debate using these tactics and by just seeming normal. TWith that accomplished, he is now free to call all hands on deck and blast away aaaat thast corrupt Crook known as the Hildebeast.
I want to see Trump be Trump. He needs to be loud, bold, relentless and as rude as the situation calls for. If he throws off a few f-bombs, that’s fine. Real Americans will love him for it. He needs to tell it like it is!
I agree with Monica Crowley on this. He needs to pound her hard on her failures and criminality, instead of just fighting over whether hes a bad guy or not. Unfortunately, so many conservative commentators have been saying this that Im sure her people will prepare her with some crafty strategy to deal with it.
The next debate is in a town hall format, so its also important that he seem likeable and understanding when dealing with regular voters. But when Hillary goes after him, he needs to go after her just as hard this time around (and especially in the third debate when he wont need to interact empathetically with the audience). He needs to be the one dominating the arguments (though that will be hard when fighting a very well-coached Hillary and 2 moderators), and not let her put him on the defense so much.
