Deep Purple to release new album in February 2017

Legendary rock group Deep Purple will release a new studio album in February 2017.

The frontman of the legendary rock band Ian Gillan said that the band will present their new studio album in February 2017. This album, like the previous one ‘Now What ?!’, will be mixed by Bob Ezrin, who worked with many renowned rock bands.

Ian Gillan also described how he records albums of Deep Purple:

“Deep Purple was different than any other kind of writing I do with other people. Deep Purple is primarily an instrumental band, and the routine is we book [time] in a studio somewhere, and the [other] guys [in the band] come in at noon. They start jamming and they work ’till six o’clock, take a break at three for a cup of tea and then do that every day. Roger and I listen to the music and clock out the occasional bit and think that might be okay for a tune on the album or something. Then we start refocusing on making arrangements and how to develop the song. Then when it is all tucked away, I start thinking about the lyrics and the tunes. There is no point before they get literally torn up every day because everything changes every day. There’s no shortage of things to write about lyrically. There is no point trying to create a tune on something that’s going to change in a couple of hours. That’s how it worked with Purple. This is primarily an instrumental band. I just climb on board and write it along.”

Great website (Setlist.com). Great first concert (Tull) too.

We're about the same age. My first concert was McCartney and Wings at the L.A. Forum in June of '76 on the "Wings over America" tour. Second concert was Zeppelin, a year later, same venue.

Never saw Deep Purple.

I have a friend here that just interviewed Ian Paice and Roger Glover late last year or early this year. How interesting...
In other news, I heard the NWOBM (kind of) band Angel Witch may be up to something new soon...

Steve Morse is a fantastic guitarist but, for me, any new release without Ritchie Blackmore loses its luster.

Blue Cheer’s fans are the best part of the band! Look at them in the background of this video from 2005: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlO47o8d9QU The music starts 45 seconds into the video.

I’ve always felt that David Coverdale had the best rock voice of all time. At least the best heavy metal voice.

The library is pretty well known up to “Slaves and Masters” (With Joe Lynn Turner) to “The Battle Rages On” (TBRO)

Blackmore left the band during the TBRO tour and Purple scrambled to replace him with Joe Satriani.

He finished the tour, but could not join the band or do studio albums due to contractual Obligations.

Enter Steve Morse. “Purpendicular” was their first album as a unit. Followed by “Abandon” “Bananas” “Rapture of the Deep and finally “Now What?”

The only one that really made a stir was Purpendicular, the others has flashes of brilliance, overall technically well done, but nothing significant. (This last statement is hard as I am a true fan)

Will see how this one does. Hopeful, but have a realistic attitude.

Blackmore has been doing some very nice Medieval music under the banner of “Blackmores Night” He recently did a four date European tour with a reformed “Rainbow” The lead singer (Ronnie Romero) did well, even with the songs done by
Ronnie James Dio.

Saw Purple twice live, both later efforts with Steve Morse. Worth seeing. The second concert was opened by Joe Satriani. As hoped he came out to play with Morse during an instrumental tribute to the Columbia catastrophe. Damn fine display of guitar work

Coverdale is still active, just did a Whitesnake album that covered his time with Purple.

His voice has suffered, but he is still a dynamic performer

Ritchie Blackmore just did a few rock shows in Europe with a thrown together ‘Rainbow’ line-up. The show I saw on YouTube opened with ‘Highway Star’. Blackmore is 71, and still kicked ass.
