If you’re the owner of such, you pretty much control everything that happens, directly. I seriously doubt such a local owner would have no idea about the local ad campaign.

Good points. I would have been more impressed if the owner spelled out just what happened, how he knew nothing about it and that the people involved were fired or will never do business with his Company again, etc
How one recovers from an incident like this tells you a lot about their character.
