I vaguely seem to remember that some people spear hunted boar in the East Texas swamps back in the 60’s. But I was young and had many other things on my mind.

Is it OK to call someone a "spear hunter"? That's a raysis dog whistle, right? Someone that throws or chucks a spear?

Well, wild spear is a bit crunchy, but it tastes far better than the domesticated variety. I’ve stopped hunting spears, though, because I’m getting older, and it’s getting harder to move out of the way of the faster-moving spears when they charge.

I think they should require spear hunting for environmentalists and animal rights activists to understand nature.

Kill or be killed.

Well shoot, I thought this was a cooking thread about spears of asparagus.

Seriously though, "too brutal" ??? What exactly *isn't* brutal about being hunted, killed, and eaten? I'm not saying hunting is bad, just the opposite. Hunting is natural. Right now, all across the globe millions of predators are hunting. Their prey may be speared, shot, clawed or bitten to death. It's a brutal world, the sooner these gentle tender-heart libtards realize that the better for all of us. SMH

What do you think of Spear Hunting?

Depends on who (whom?) is on the receiving end of the spear.

Spear hunting is too easy and gives the hunter too much of an advantage. In west Texas, some people hunt feral hogs with just hunting knives. Jump on their backs and slit their throats. Now that is pretty even odds!

I have no problem with this. Why do libs want to try to ban everything they don’t like?

Hillary, Obama the Democrats and some Republicrats want to take away our lawful guns. I guess we’ll have to resort to spears and bows and arrows.

(He claims this primitive way of hunting is the most ethical as it pits you against your game at close range with one throw to get your game.)

1) Why do they call the hunted animal “game”? It is terrible marketing for hunting!
2) He’s right that this type of hunting gives more of a chance to the animal, however...
3)...if you want to minimize the animal’s suffering, the quicker its death, the better.

We conservatives acquiesce to the reality that we need to eat meat to live. We should all be for limiting the suffering of the animals we kill though.

Going mano a mano spear hunting against a Grizzly, would require that I wear my brown pants and best sneakers.

I remember hearing about a guy who hunted wild boar with a (pocket?) knife. He would hang out in a tree over a game trail and drop down on the unsuspecting piggy.

How about trapping? Or maybe boomerang?

Hunting is a sport. It doesn’t mean the people doing it are out there to survive. The game that can be consumed is an extra opportunity and is part of the pride of the hunt. Anyone can go down to the grocery store or meat market and purchase the game for the table at cheaper prices than it would cost to hunt it. It’s a sport. Thee are no “ethics” in hunting. You track the game, you kill the game, you eat the game. Or if you are using a .22 to hunt water buffalo, the game hunts you and kills you. Pretty simple.
