In an interview with Hugh Hewitt today, Donald Trump hinted that he is seriously considering John Bolton as Secretary State.
Bolton would be a very good choice, second only to Newt Gingrich, in my opinion.
In the audio, below, beginning around the 3:00 mark, The Donald makes this surprise announcement.
Trump was quick to point out that making the announcement too early subjects the candidate to an invasive media rectal exam, poking and probing to generate sensational news at the expense of the candidate, which is true. It is smart to make cabinet appointment announcements after the election.
Responding to Hewitts probing regarding naming Bolton as Secretary of State now, The Donald declared, I think John Boltons a good man. I watched him yesterday, actually, and he was very good in defending me in some of my views, and very, very strong, and Ive always liked John Bolton. Well, we are thinking about it, Hugh. I will say that. We are thinking about it. I mean, the negative is what I told you. But we are seriously thinking about it.
A Council on Foreign Relations guy? Someone who wants to risk war with Russia over a Syria no-fly zone?
Style over substance is usually not a good thing in international politics.
“I prefer K.T. McFarland”
NO WAY! K.T. is WAY overqualified for that job.
National Security Adviser is a much better fit.
Yeeessssss!
Toughness and competence. What a great turn around that will be. Expect loud squawking from our enemies, foreign and domestic, confirming the wisdom of Trump’s choice.
Bolton is very clear in his hatred of the UN. Another plus.
Trump hires smart people!
Bolton could do the job well from what I have seen of him.
Dennis would be fabu! Must-see TV for sure.
I can think of two...
Competence and honesty.
OK, maybe three... not an unindicted felon.
HA!
Man, I’d love him to get the post and see Bolton become the next Chuck Norris meme. :)
I’d LOVE to see that one!
Another similar..
John Bolton is like John Wayne toilet paper. Rough, tough and won’t take crap off nothin’..
I like guys like Bolton that use an economy of words. Says what he means. Means what he says.
If used to be big on Bolton but he’s a little too hawkish at this point. Newt would be the better choice but I don’t know if his age would preclude all the travel involved.
And NO ambassador to the UN....F the UN
