Some 7,000 armed police with heavy vehicles have surrounded and blocked the Incirlik air base in Adana used by NATO forces, already restricted in the aftermath of a failed coup. Unconfirmed reports say troops were sent to deal with a new coup attempt.

Hurriyet reported earlier that Adana police had been tipped off about a new coup attempt, and forces were immediately alerted. The entrance to the base was closed off.

Security forces armed with rifles and armored TOMA vehicles used by Turkish riot police could be seen at the site in photos taken by witnesses....

At least they’re in better shape than the two Riverine crews.

I think Erdogan has given Obama and the U.S. (not that they are related in any way), the middle finger.

We will pull out troops, materiel, weapons, aircraft, etc. from Incirlik in the next week. if we don't, we are insane.

I think this is just Erdogan's way of bragging by showing that he isn't afraid of the U.S.

I don't think anything will come of it...but who knows.

We have no playbook for what is going on in Turkey.

I recently listened to an interview by someone very credible. He said three weeks to make them ready.

“Time for carriers in Med and NE Indian Ocean big time. And subs with cruise missiles.”

Under whose command? 0bama will not so anything except bomb empty tents in a desert. He will say this is being handled diplomatically.

Right. If there were any CIA involvement in a coup, it would be a renegade group...and you can be sure there are plenty of them.

That's the way intel works when it works right.

“Erdogan organized an anti-American riot and then sent anti-riot troops to protect the AFB.”

Yep, it’s just basic ‘diplomacy’.
When you’ve got the upper hand show it.

In this day and age, when we can deliver nukes just about anywhere in the world in a matter of hours, why do we even need to have nukes in a place like this air base? I am sure these nukes are low yield tactical but still, why do we even need them in such an insecure place, especially after last week?

He will say this is being handled diplomatically.

State Dept has already commented that this matter is being handled back-channel...which means Obama and Kerry are begging.

That’s what I think. These are just old symbolic nukes. They give some credibility to our relationship with Turkey...or at least they used to.

We’d better be prepared to nuke this base if it falls.

No that old, came after we went to the moon. They are upgradeable via reusing existing components and adding newer tech. "The B61-3 has a dial-a-yield ranging from .3 to 170 kt, while the B61-4′s yield ranges from .3 – 50 kt. These weapons, because they are deployed in Europe and carried by fighter bombers, are dubbed to be strategic. (The range of the delivery vehicle matters for classification purposes) The new weapon, dubbed the B61-12, will cannibalize parts from all of the B61 mods and consolidate them into a new bomb." It appears they are far from useless, old relics.
