The horrible thing was how the non-nazi politicians all caved so quickly in giving Hitler unchecked power especially with the enabling acts in 1933. How can a dictator get power so easily? The only ones that went down on principle were the leftist social democrats!

A lot of intimidation and murder helped him along. Plus propaganda in all its nasty forms.

The schemer Fritz Von Papen is most responsible for putting Hitler in power. The irony in all of it is they at first thought that by making Hitler chancellor they could control him. By 1934 the SA under Rhoem numbered some three million. Hitler was afraid they would take over, so in true gangster fashion he eliminated his rival.

The Leftists/Communists and the Nazis believed in pretty much the same thing to reach political control, that the individual 'citizen' must and shall become subordinated and subjugated to the Government, or else.

Despite all the political theories between Nazis and Communists they pretty much want the same thing, the enslavement of everyone they can get their hands on and murder them, so as to cow the rest who might resist.

It happened because Weimar Germany was a disaster. Children where bought and sold for sex in the streets, the middle class was being crushed by bankers and crooked politicians, and the birth rate had dropped to almost nothing because people saw no future. A lot like modern America.
