Ready to kick your Craigslist game up a notch? Maybe you're a regular seller on the site or maybe you want to get started. Either way, we'll cover the basics of how to make money on Craigslist so you can start using the site as your side hustle and make your listings stand out from the crowd.
1. Getting Started
If you don't already have a Craigslist account you'll need to make one if you want to make money on Craigslist. On your local Craigslist site, (e.g. newyork.craigslist.org) you'll see a link in the top left that says "post to classifieds." Click on that link. Then in the top right you'll see an option to log in to an existing account or create an account. To create a new account you'll go through the usual steps to getting set up with a new site (providing your email, etc.).
Once you have an account set up you can create your first listing. The first thing you'll do is select the type of posting you're creating. If you're selling an item you can choose "for sale by owner." Then you'll choose the category of the good from a long list that includes things like "antiques," "appliances," "bicycles," "furniture," "jewelry," "tools" and more. Depending on your area, once you select a category you may be asked to narrow down your location. For example, in New York you'll be asked which borough you're in....

AOL is still around?
Ton of scam artists on that site.
That was a waste of one minute off my life.
Take only cash.
And pack heat and take a buddy.
My teen just went to view a mower (he has a lawn biz) and some me-hee-can tried to sell him a ‘hot’ mower. He was wise not to buy. Said it was a piece of crap.
Not only that, but violent criminals using CL pretending to be a buyer/seller in order to find unwary prey.
No doubt there are thousands of transactions every day that go off without a hitch and both parties are satisfied, but people should be mindful of the horrors violent criminals have inflicted on the unwary.
I’ve sold many items on my local craigslist and have bought a few things too, no problems.
I’ve never seen anything on CL that was remotely a good deal, much less a bargain. And a whole lot of scammy crap.
If possible, most definitely good advice.
An agreement to make the transaction in a public place, like the parking lot of a police station, could also be helpful.
I got a couple of screaming good deals on CL. A lightly used All American canner for $100, new would have been $250.
Also got a Excalibur food dehydrate for $60, new around $160.

Absolutely!
Use only texting, reject those that refer to "your item"and want you to use their email in reply. (And not the provided, and secure, C/L address).
I got my Ibanez AS-120 (90’s, made in South Korea) and my Surly Long Haul Trucker (touring bike) off Dallas Craigslist. Both decent people, fair prices.
I’ve sold lots of stuff on Craig’s List, and bought a few things... never had any problems.
In Kansas City the Mexicans have taken over the used cars on Craigslist. Nearly every car under $6000 is a Mexican flipper. Cars with open titles selling as “for sale by owner”. We were trying to buy a car for my son and it was awful. Lying cheating guys selling patched up junk fit only for pick n pull. I asked many of them point blank “is this your car that you owned for some time or are you a flipper you know unliscensed dealer” any they would reply “yes”. Bunch of liars. If we try to buy and a deep Spanish accent answers the phone I hang up. Not worth the time.
If you are not making money on the Internet you are doing it wrong.
Expand.
Me too and High dollar items to boot. I look for machines that are inoperable or just look ugly. I don’t care what they are asking for it, that I can negotiate when I go look at it. Best time to buy is on weekends when banks are closed. You go look at it, offer low but emphasize it would be cash today only. Get it, take it home, fix it, paint it and relist it for a high profit. Have made thousands that way.
