The Pope is and has always been a Man and a core Principle of Conservatism correctly asserts, that Man is not a perfectible creature.
The Papacy, despite warts, has done two things that redeem it.
* It preserved the Heritage of Greece and Rome after 475 AD, in its great universities across Europe and
* It saved Europe several times from the onslaught of fanatical Islam.
