There are some pretty affordable small places on Hatteras Island if you don’t have to be right on the water, particularly around Buxton and Frisco.
I think it would be a blast to live there but I hate that it is so far from a hiking trail in the Smokies.
go to texas and quit this stupid stuff.
Nice places I have seen:
1. Backcountry in GA, TN, E KY or WV
2. Fairbanks and North Pole, Alaska
3. Vashon Island
4. Roche Harbor
5. Coeur d’Alene
Interesting ideas:
1. Gasparilla Island, FL
2. Okrakoke, NC, Outer Banks
3. UP, Michigan
4. Olympic Peninsula, WA
5. small island available only by ferry
6. A holler somewhere so far up it’s often dark
If Guam, sell the car. Get a bike.
Better to blow your brains out than to move to soviet Red Hampshire. Evil people.
Isn’t Guam about to tip over?

I was in your situation 40 years ago. I finally moved from Detroit to central Kentucky. Never regretted it.
No one mentioned that to keep in touch with family that you are close to that you need to visit them and go to funerals, weddings, etc. You should stay within one gas tank drive from the family that matters to do this. If your family is scattered then it will not matter.
Yes, it will likely cost you ten thousand dollars just to get situated some place. Make a list of expected expenses.
Gate City, Va.
Cheap rural living 15 minutes from Kingsport, Tn. (Pop 50,000).
Buy a nice house for 30 or 40 grand. Fix up one for less.
I’d live in Gate City if I could make a living there. My husband’s family moved from Brooklyn to Kingsport. Our retirment home is in Collegedale 3 hrs down the interstate.
I typically point mine forward on a road. Where it takes me is another story.
When you come to a fork in the road, take it.
It has been said that a horned toad will point you in the right direction.
Get a big map of the U.S. Spread it out on the floor. Now get a penny. Hold penny, close your eyes, turn around three times and flip the coin.
Where the penny lands on the map, that is your next stop.
