Interstate 10 Shut Down Mile Post 352-Mile Post 378.
The Cochise County Sheriff's Office is assisting with closing Interstate 10 both east and west bound lanes near San Simon. The closure is the result of zero visibility and multiple vehicle accidents.
Please be advised to avoid this area until further notice. At least one semi-truck has collided with several vehicles, a San Simon Fire Truck and DPS vehicle have been involved in crashes as well.
Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office is sending emergency vehicles to assist.
DPS is re-routing traffic to Exit 352 through Highway 191 to Safford and back around over into NM and back to Interstate 10.
Avoid this area and plan for extra time to get around this area.
Where is this?
Ok, I give up. Why is it closed?
State DOT irepaving the interstate
Cochise County is SE Arizona. My adoptive home of Sierra Vista is there along with Ft. Huachuca and nearby Tombstone. It sounds like this is very near the New Mexico border though.
Southern Arizona. Cochise County borders the Mexican border and has Sierra Vista (Fort Huachuca) as it’s largest city I believe.
I used to live and work there, until the contract ran out.
Blowing sand???
I used to live there and work at Ft. Huachuca. Lived in the Oasis Apts.

Sand?
I’m an easterner who was vacationing in the west in 2000. I ran into a dust storm just outside of Casa Grande while driving. At first, all I could see was a vague red glow from the lights in front of me, then a kind of yellow-brown nothing. Got off on to the shoulder but kept waiting for someone to clobber me from behind. We could finally see well enough to find a hotel for the night. Scary.
My all time favorite place to live.
Who knows/
Never have seen a dust storm there, unlike Ca
Unusual in my experience of the area.
TV news just said severe blowing dust.
I had my bike there. Nice riding from Sierra Vista to Bisbee for lunch, then on to Tombstone. Park the bike, sit outside of the Crystal Palace and enjoy the low humidity and the tourists.
Then a leisurely ride back.
Nice place.
