Probably no one has earned more leeway from conservative voters and pundits than Rush Limbaugh. Rush has been a tireless force for the conservative movement for decades, and he probably is responsible for a whole lot of conservative Republicans who are currently in office. But thankfulness for past service only goes so far, and Rushs program yesterday officially crossed the line.
When I think about Rushs last year or so on air, Im reminded of Marshall Phillipe Petain, one of the most intriguing figures of the twentieth century. Without Petain, the French might not have prevailed over the Germans at Verdun, and thus might have lost World War I. But for as much thanks as France owed Petain for his service in World War I, the full historical reckoning for Petain must acknowledge that Petain was a Nazi collaborator, the leader of Vichy France, and a totalitarian dictator. Petains history is complicated, and to tell the whole tale honestly requires acknowledging both the good and the bad.
So it is with Rush. For all he has done, and for all we should be thankful for, it is hard to deny that Donald Trump has brought conservatism to a critical moment. From this moment forward, it will either resemble the vision Rush has preached for thirty years, or it will not. It will either move forward as a recognizable force, or it will be destroyed with Trump in a historic landslide election.
Ridiculous article.
Rush is running a business and always has been.
I have no doubt he is unwavering in the conservatism he’s preached over the years and it’s been very very profitable for him while providing a informative and inspirational rallying point for those of us who are real believers. Not believers in Rush, but believers in conservatism.
THis election like no other has presented a dilemma for him in that 60% of his conservative customer base is for Trump, the rest for Cruz. He’s tried to play both sides, with, “I’m just an observer, reporting, you decide, which is exactly what he’s never been.
He fully understands Cruz has no chance in the general and hasn’t since Fl and OH primaries, and knows Trump is a risk, but the only R with a chance, but what will he turn out to be. I suspect Rush see’s this as a lose, lose situation. The supposed most conservative candidate getting crushed in the general, or the risk, winning and governing as liberal.
So he’s standing on the sideline more, concerned about losing listeners and his bottom line than he is the country.
Downright disappointing, and very telling of what really drives him, when the real goal is beating Hillary.
There is NOTHING more conservative than stopping a permanent democrat/marxist voting majority and doing whats best for the people and the country. By virtue of Mr. Trumps position on illegal immigration he Trumps all others conservatism.
After he had no problems with disenfranchising voters in CO and Wyoming, after he blasted Lewindowsky and said nothing when no charges were dropped, after he spent 3 hours cranking up some kook conspiracy theory about Ted’s microphone being sabotaged, I came to the conclusion that he is in the tank for Ted and the establishment. Never calls Cruz supporters “cruzers”, etc. But, Trump supporters are Trumpets or Trumpeters. He is subtle with his bias (never speaks negative about Cruz) but it is there.
It is the oligarchy, uniparty. There is no uniting, with GOPe globalists.
Gee is this what Rush is saying now? I would have no idea since I stopped listening about a year ago. I finally got tired of the nonstop commercials and the constant pimping of is tea and books... The set-up calls got old... With all the crap it seemed like he gave commentary for perhaps 15 minutes each hour...
“Right-wing version of the SJW”?
NOT trying to start a fight, but what do you mean by that? In my opinion, SJW’s are the rudest and craziest members of the liberal arm of the Democratic Party
Rush, Levin, Beck, and Savage, Hannity et al, are all entertainers first, all in this business to make money...no problem there, but the hero worshiping of these entertainers should stop. They’re views and opinions are just that, and are no more or less important than ours.
Because... RUSH KNOWS IT’S OVER.
I think anyone who believes Rush is neutral had not been listening.
Rush used to pump Trump constantly, enjoying the fun and always saying he likes Trump.
Then Rush stopped. He stopped talking much about Trump and began worshipping Cruz and Cruz’s chances.
Then Rush began doing long anti Trump dialogues.
He tried to be too clever and waited way too long to help Cruz. And it’s this cowardly sneaky cleverness that is so distasteful. Of course he never says any of this directly.
It’s not only a desire to appear neutral, it’s the constant game of always claiming he was right after he hid in a corner.
I got fed up when he went into a commercial with a smarmy bit about the “serious problem” surrounding Michelle Fields. He also said everyone hates Corey Lewandowsky.
On the day Lewandowsky was vindicated, Rush spun it that the whole thing was done by people who hate Lewandowsky. But that was quite a different way of saying it.
Proudly Company Man free since today.
They can’t be that delusional can they?
I think you nailed it.
This election has revealed a lot of things that had been hidden. The GOPe is much, much worse than we had realized.
Either Rush can't see it, or (worse) he is OK with it.
Either way, I'm done with Rush.
Levin and co has become Leftist Social Justice Warriors, going after people who don’t believe the female accuser
Nice to say, sadly not true. Trump is conservative everywhere that it matters.
Cruslim = We’re doomed, thanks to you and your terminology. Enjoy Inauguration day in 2016, when you can sing “God save Queen Shrillary!”
Rush -- along with just about every other conservative in the country -- was screwed either way. Support Trump, and conservatives will say he's sold out conservatism. Support Cruz, and the populists will say he's in thrall to the GOP-E. It's a no win situation.
And in fairness to Rush, he hasn't trashed Trump. He says Cruz is the most conservative, and if that's the most important thing to you, vote for him. Trump is the nationalist/populist, and if the most important thing to you is to destroy the elites, then vote for him. Not really sure how anyone could quarrel with that.
Oh, I sure do! I was firmly in the anti-NAFTA camp (letters to the editor and such). His spin was that the agreement/treaty was imperfect, a patchwork quilt of mediocre and good policy, but overall it was NECESSARY to pass the bill ... so the Mexican economy would improve, turn the tide of illegal immigration (they would have good jobs in their own country and wouldn't need ours), and *ahem* bring up the standard of living south of the border.
How'd that turn out for you Rush Windbag?
What is more conservative then fighting to save America from the Globalists who are working to destroy us as a sovereign functioning country? That’s called REAL conservatism.
Cruz is a Globalist. He’s pushing your market research identified conservative buttons but has no Love of America
Timeline
