There are a number of angles to this.
1. They don’t want big names having to stand up with Trump and endorse his nomination
2. They don’t want big names associated with the full on melt down that will take place if Curz gets his way
3. It’s a lot easier to play it up that this is an out of control process, all Trump’s fault if only minor players are participating
4. The party knows it’s going to take a hit, and wants to distance everyone they can to minimize the damage. Republican careers will end at this convention, and they know it.

We all need to be both there and camped out in front of their homes. That includes the media. Nothing says loving like the Gadsden flag.
