The most shocking development of the current election cycle is the abandonment of Scriptural principles by Christian voters for "pragmatic" reasons. The following verses from the Bible are meant as a gentle reminder of God's view:
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; (Psalm 33:12 )
For whom should Christians vote?
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14 )
What character should acceptable candidates display? The following verses shed light:
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. (Proverbs 8:13)
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch. (Proverbs 11:28)
The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. (Psalm 10:4 )
For the love of money is the root of all evil: (1 Timothy 6:10)
A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent. (Proverbs 28:20 )
Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; (1 Timothy 6:17)
How can character be discerned? Do any of these fruits apply to your candidate?
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. (Matthew 7:20)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; (2 Peter 1:4-6)
WARNING- if your candidate deceives you with the promises of amazing, awesome constant worldly winning, you should prayerfully examine your faith...true faith can NOT be deceived by such a person!
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (Matthew 24:24)
One final admonition; if you are tempted to vote for a candidate that promises fantastic worldly rewards remember -
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Mark 8:36)
In my family there are two cousins and all of their children who are Christian. They’ve voted for Obama twice and will vote for Hillary.
“Messiah Ted and his prophet Glenn Beck.”
Messiah Ted and his FALSE prophet Glenn Beck.
My faith and belief is a private matter between me and the creator. This political and scriptural mix is gone beyond annoying. You guys are now into the creepy zone.
Catholic/ Christians for Trump in this home too.
Cruz is not running to win. He is running to prevent Trump from winning. Kasich might be doing the same.
Trump has "evolved" on so many issues, I don't trust him.
Cruz is no saint, but he's been more consistent on the issues that mean the most to me.
This christian has already voted for Trump as the GOP nominee and I’m looking forward to voting for Trump for the Presidential election.
Not voting for Trump is your agenda. Not Gods.
This Christian voted or Trump in Ohio.
I don’t need any ‘person of faith’ trying to exert control over me because they believe themselves to be ‘more Christian than others’ because they can recite scripture.
CS Lewis warned about people like you...
Let him begin by treating the Patriotism or the Pacifism as a part of his religion. Then let him, under the influence of partisan spirit, come to regard it as the most important part. Then quietly and gradually nurse him on to the stage at which the religion becomes merely part of the cause Once you have made the World an end, and faith a means, you have almost won your man, and it makes very little difference what kind of worldly end he is pursuing. Provided that meetings, pamphlets, policies, movements, causes, and crusades, matter more to him than prayers and sacraments and charity, he is ours and the more religious (on those terms) the more securely ours. I could show you a pretty cageful down here
My faith is not determined nor should it be questioned because of Politics. Christ separated the two and chastised Simon who was looking for a political messiah. My faith is secure, my walk is with the Lord and the longer I walk with the Lord the LESS political I become.
I am voting for Trump for several reasons and one is because as a Christian, I cannot vote for a lying cultist (Cruz) who misuses Scripture and uses God to get votes.
God will judge me on my faith in Christ, but if you think he will judge on our ballots then you may want to reconsider who YOU are voting for. Who did Christ spend time with? The sinners (Trump) or the Pharisees (Cruz)?
So principled Cruz has sided with the establishment to take the nomination to a smoke filled room.
And Neil Bush who cost America billions by causing savings and loans to fail has been welcomed into his campaign.
I am sorry, but this has become very clear to me now.
Thank you for that.
I had a whole long paragraph typed up ready to go about Satan coming not with horns and tails, but packaged and marketed like laundry soap yada yada.
And several of your verses are taken out of context. Would you like me to elaborate?
I’m Jewish, so I’ll stay out of the theological disagreements that Christians are having with each other.
Here, though, is my perspective:
1) G-d gave us a brain, with the capacity for logical AND moral reasoning. We should use it.
2) G-d tests us every day, hundreds of times (at least) with every choice we make. Sometimes it is clear that we’re being tested, and most of the time we’re just clueless...but He is watching. He’s not only watching the small things (like do you take something not belonging to you, or help that little old lady across the street, or give to charity), but also to see if you use the gifts that He gave you in a wise manner.
3) Regarding this election, I think and believe that if ANY Dem gets in, this country is finished. This fantasy that some people have (and I am NOT pointing my finger at anyone on this thread) of “it has to get worse before it gets better” is just that - a fantasy. Somewhere, there’s probably some Romano-phile still out there saying, “Well, its pretty bad, but soon there’ll be a backlash and the REAL Rome will be restored, Caesars, lions, legions and all. JUST YOU WAIT!” Uh, no, that’s not the way things work. Worse leads to WORSE, not better. Make a country more course and less moral, and it deteriorates. Make it weaker, and its enemies take things away from it on a permanent basis. Allow a mass influx of people who don’t share a nation’s culture and ideals, and you eliminate not only that nation, but that culture and those ideals, as well. Allow all of these things to happen simultaneously, and you have a perfect recipe for the fall of a (perhaps great) civilization.
A Dem win in 2016 will pretty much doom this nation to the dustheap of history - and with the potential that we have (and have demonstrated over a long period of time) to do good in the world, THAT would be among the most evil things that we, as good people of ANY religion (or none) could allow. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Edmund Burke

Let’s not do nothing, and let’s have G-d be proud that we are using one of the most important gifts that He gave to us, our minds. Let’s all vote for the ONLY candidate who can possibly stop the Dems from winning the White House again: The Republican nominee, whomever he may be. I have my own personal preference, as do all of you undoubtedly, but we MUST, MUST, MUST put aside our foolish pride and come together to stop a demonstrably evil person who represents a demonstrably evil ideology from gaining power.
There is some opinion that ISLAM is the Antichrist religion
with its followers already wearing the sign of the AC on
their foreheads and their hands. It sure is Antichrist; can’t argue with that!
I don’t think God is political.
I'm inclined to think both Republicans and Democrats got toasted at Sodom and Gomorrah... :-)
It is funny that there are some Trump supports who immediately recognize that quoting scripture is somehow the in direct contradiction with their candidate.
As far as this post, there is nothing wrong with a good exhortation. As a matter of fact, we are told to exhort one another in the Bible. Why there are some who insist in living a duplicitous, double-minded nearly schizophrenic life where they keep God in a box accessible on Sundays, I have no idea. When the anti-moralizers come out (who are actually reverse moralizers in their own right), you know you have stricken a nerve.
Praise the Lord! Godless conservatives and practical atheists have not stamped out all opposition. The scary thing? They find themselves in opposition not to us, but to scripture. The very word of God. They should be careful who they vote for, if they call themselves Christian. Nothing wrong at all for pointing that out.
Thanks,
refreshed
“I’m inclined to think both Republicans and Democrats got toasted at Sodom and Gomorrah... :-)”

Yup you got it.
