It’s a brand.
I bought some Halo LED conversions for recessed light cans the other day for $25 at Home Depot. They’re nowhere near 150 watts though.
Agree. They were totally unmarketable at the time and remained so until recently because some one payed of someone or became one of 0bama’sadvisors - something like that - was no demand until the pressure was put on Congress. Anyway there was a scandal which the MSN barely reported, but we got stuck them so GE could make money off of something no one wanted ... like 0bamacre.
I noticed some LED street lights the other day. Apparently they are really taking off in that application. One of these days, only old timers will remember the orange-y look of sodium lights.
I’ll continue with incandescent for some years to come. I laid in a supply of about 1000 before they went extinct, with an assortment of wattages from 40W to 150W.
It’ll probably be years ‘til we switch. Met-Ed sent us a pile of CFLs and nightlights - to save energy, of course - and I’ve got a supply of incandescents laid in.
Mine last years longer. I shop for price and it sure has changed my electric bill. I’ve gotten my money back already...two years.
I have some CREE automotive LED lights on the Willys for interior, extra backup and engine compartment lights.
The CFLs I've bought haven't. I'm lucky if they last six months.
Seemed like I was doing it all the time (4 recessed ceiling fixtures), CFLs or incandescents, so I started to write the dates on the bases: Oct, 2013 isn't quite 2.5 years for the one that just died.
They put in LED runway lights at NAS Whidbey Island. Absolutely amazing.
He was wrong, but don't think that Japanese workers are picking this lettuce. Japanese LED lettuce is actually picked by robots. The entire facility is automated.
It’s almost time to retire all those “How many x does it take to change a light bulb?” jokes. Once all the current bulbs are swapped out for LEDs, the young ‘uns won’t even know what it means to change a light bulb.
LED reliability will be HUGE for street lights and other bulbs in difficult-to-reach locations.
I’ve replaced florescent lighting in my basement/family room with LEDs. The light is better, it’s instant on, and cheaper than replacing florescent bulbs.
I’ve got 60 and 150 watt equivalent bulbs right here now on a floor lamp. Inches from two computers and a radio and not a hint of interference.
I think there are some good and bad LEDs on the market now, and if you have good ones there’s no such effect.
Led Lighting + Cheap/Clean Energy + Indoor/Vertical farming = Unlimited food supply for humanity.
Just need to get the fusion or other technology working and hunger will be a thing of the past.
The population bomb was as wrong as can be.
Also impacting sales are those of us who have a 10 - 20 year supply of traditional incandescent bulbs.
Sure wish I’s snagged more of the 3-way 30/70/100 watt bulbs!
The prison I work at just went to LEDs for all of its security lighting. What a difference! And the payoff in energy savings is about 3-4 years from what I’ve heard.

Then there's the RF that computers generate on their own ... a topic for another time! :-)
