Donald Trump is now officially the Code Pink Republican. Or maybe he's the Daily Kos or Huffington Post Republican. How about the Debbie Wasserman Schultz Republican? I think that fits. Heck, we all saw it and we all heard it. Trump went full left loon on George W. Bush and 9/11, sounding like the most impassioned truther from the left. Did Maxine Waters do his debate prep?
Trump snarked childishly that Bush did not keep us safe on 9/11. Apparently Mr. Trump is not intellectually very curious about history. If he were, he would know that 9/11 was dreamed up, contemplated, financed, planned, and practiced on Bill Clinton's watch. This planning and practicing continued during the days of the hanging chads in Florida.
This is not to defend George W. Bush and his neocon nation-building fantasies and his capitulation to unions regarding the TSA and so on. I've been critical of Bush and Karl Rove since 2001 on these and many other issues.
But the truth matters.
And the truth is that the single biggest failure by the American intelligence community was foisted onto the CIA and the FBI by Clinton appointee Jamie Gorelick with her infamous "wall of separation" between the two agencies. They had their hands tied behind their backs -- thanks to a Clinton appointee.

The biggest Bush failures were ignoring the intelligence that could have prepared the US for a terror attack, and not having a plan plan to “win the peace”. I like W in many ways, but he and his neocons really screwed this up, and everyone knows it. If he’d continued living a private life, Trump never would have raised the issue, but by supporting Jeb! he becomes fair game.
As one of those who evidently profits from such screeds, C. Edmund probably smells opportunity - with the rise of Trump will come a market for Trump-bashers and Trump-hate, at least until their last shreds of credibility are gone.
It won’t matter to his bot like followers because. . . . Government is gonna be our friends because he’s gonna make things great again.
Wright is disingenuous. He would have you believe Trump is changing his stance to get votes, as if Trump needs to succumb to this old, disgusting political soft shoe, slip and slide routine. Trump says what is on his mind, political winds be damn. Wright is old school when it comes to Trump.
This cultlike devotion by the Trumpophiles is inexplicable.
Just because he talks tough to the press and wants to build a wall (as do other candidates) they choose to either ignore or accept his prior 2 decades of liberal postions and present inane statements.
Talk about drinking the Kool-Aid.
I’m almost wondering I some of these people think Vietnam wasn’t a mistake either.
I just wonder what “true conservative” Cruz thinks of the war. So far, while his fan bloggers want to shame people for seeing it as the fiasco it turned out to be, they seemed to have made zero effort to get a statement from him.
If any of these guys think the public is hype and ready for more wars over there, then they are as dumb as a box of rocks.
“Americans are tired of sending their sons and daughters to some middle eastern $hithole to die and come home wounded and maimed only to have ISIS, the Taliban or whatever new version of Islamic nutcases take the place of the former governments.”
Trump wants to “kick ISIS’s ass”. So how is he gonna do that without sending our sons and daughters there to do it? Is he just going to drop more bombs? Just curious.
Let the people there, like the Russians, be on the ground.
Stop them here, because they are here now.
Yep... and it is a gallop. This guy is so arrogant with the spoiled little rich kid syndrome... he isn’t even bothering to wait until he gets the nomination before he moves left, back to where he really is. He’s there now and the sheepel just accept it.
“This is not to defend George W. Bush and his neocon nation-building fantasies and his capitulation to unions regarding the TSA and so on....”
Apparently you didn’t read the article yourself. That author seems to be leaning a bit Trump on his own.
If Trump is a liberal, why do the GOPe hate him and want nothing to do with him?
Hello world!!! Did George H.W. State in his latest bio that his son was “served badly by his advisors ... Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al” — seems like an admission that Iraq war was error don’t ya think??
Everyone seems to have forgotten the Aerial photographs of the convoys into Sryia prior to the ground invasion. I have not.
Pretty simple. Now that the pandora’s box has been opened, the job needs to be finished. The issue always was whether to open it or not, and that’s where Bush screwed up. Amd moron Jeb and Cruz and Rubio would love nothing more to get us involved in Syria next. In hindsight, the Bush family has screwed this country but good for 36 years and counting.
Not supporting the Iraq war, which turned into a mess that we are still paying for = moving left.
Keeping your mouth shut and acting like you don’t notice = being on the right?
So I take it you support all of the mini Iraqs Obama has created too?
Exactly. 9-11 is just a sacred cow. Fact is we got hit and hit hard. That is reality.
He threatens their monopoly on power in the party. Most GOPe think he would be difficult to control and is a loose cannon.
Has nothing to do with his perceived conservatism.
It’s Cruz’s conservatism that they despise to a greater degree and hence why they would prefer Trump between the two.
Obviously you've done as much research on me as you have Trumpy. I'm telling you....the world is full of idiots....and this crazy country lets them vote.
So Bush is a full blown closet democrat to you now, but Trump’s past gives you no pause whatsoever?
Very, very good post....
So many people are taking what Trump said about PP out of context...You cleared that up...But will they pay attention?
“Let the people there, like the Russians, be on the ground.”
Ok, but that’s happening now. Are you saying to maintain the status quo? Because Trump is saying “Kick their asses”. What exactly does that mean if not more boots on the ground?
