The existence of an EMP is proven physics, the idea that one nuke 300 miles up could wipe out America is fiction. There won’t even be significant impact. You’re not getting any EMP damage 2000 miles (remember, it’s got to run the hypotenuse of the triangle) from the blast.

No, that’s not how it works. The EMP is caused by gamma rays interacting with the atmosphere 10-30km above the earths surface. The gamma rays are energetic enough to travel a long distance until they reach the atmosphere of sufficient density (low angle case).
What you end up with is a large area of the atmosphere acting as a large transmitter thousands of miles across. EMP energy comes from all around (not a specific direction) and reaches levels around 50,000V/m, whereas a cell phone may reach 1 or 2 V/m in most cases.

Totally agree. This idea that EMP wipes out all thins electronic and electrical is nonsense and internet nerd talk. They all think they’ll survive something no one else can possible understand but them. it’s technical dontcha know. There may be some effects but not the end of civilization as we know it effects.
