The Real Ted Cruz

Cruz has walked the walk and I will vote for him.

This nation has been blessed in many respects by the qualities of some of its presidents. For wisdom, one thinks of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. For political savvy one thinks of Ronald Reagan and even Franklin Roosevelt. For sheer candlepower one thinks of Thomas Jefferson, John and John Quincy Adams, and, possibly, Ted Cruz.

If the test is IQ, Ted Cruz is light years ahead of Donald Trump. If the test is honesty, humility, conservative bona fides, and basic decency, Donald Trump is not even in the same league with Ted Cruz.

My first impressions of Senator Ted Cruz were of the highest order.

However, "Ted Cruz for President" was a heart breaker, replacing my infatuation with something else altogether.

Now I am more open to this:

Don't get me wrong. Ted Cruz is a smart, canny, talented guy who has run a great "long race" campaign. He aspires to be Reagan but trust me he's Nixon. Right down the incredible discipline and smarts playing the political game.

Ted Cruz is not who he appears to be. As the bible says, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves." In this case we must beware a Canadian bearing gifts.

Our times' Kabuki Theatre politics in a "Made for TV" kayfabed reality make it very difficult to know what is real and what is just part of the show.

In this ultra-high stakes game of Ephesians 6:12, observers and players both have to work much harder at not being played.
