Trump's donations to leftist politicians accomplished a lot, right?

So you are saying the Trump's donations to liberals show Trump to be a liberal? Ok, what do his donations to conservatives show? To me it shows one of the most successful businessman in the history of the world playing the game to win. I find myself wishing we had leadership that played the same way for the home team.

Trump was doing what any major player does.

He hedged his bets and donated enough to both sides that he was still up on their big donor list. Maybe more went to those he thought would pay off the best, in terms of connections and gratitude (most likely to win), but that's the way it is done at that level.

It isn't principle, it's pay-to-play.
