I’m wondering how much these same outfits are giving to other candidates. I’m going to guess that Morgan Lewis doles out money to more than one candidate — Democrats too perhaps. I used to work for a law firm that has its own PAC. They play both sides of the fence.
And note that all three companies are under investigation or have been sued. Have any of them been convicted of wrongdoing?

Same here. Many of the largest law firms, especially in DC, have their own lobbying practice areas. Where do many former Congressmen and government officials end up? Working for DC law firms. Doing what? Serving as lobbyists.
These firms also give large donations to campaigns and activist groups. All of them. It gets their foot in the door for future lobbying efforts — the cause or campaign doesn’t matter. Only the money matters and there is a lot of money floating around DC.
They give to both sides, just like Trump says he did as a businessman. The business donors to Obama have done really well. That is one thing I like about Trump, not taking donations. But unfortunately most people are not in a position to do that.
