Read the whole article, it’s chilling.
How many of us who answer the door with a uniformed cop demanding compliance or submission when we’ve done nothing wrong, are going to look Mr. Big Bad Cop in the eye and say, “Come back with a warrant!”?
These days I would, no problem. Due to other circumstances, I had to put up a security system that has both video and audio recording capabilities. The A/V spools locally and streams to the cloud. Previous to, I simply would not have answered the door.
Me.
“...are going to look Mr. Big Bad Cop in the eye and say, âCome back with a warrant!â?...”
I’ll just be polite and firmly insistent, keeping a pleasant smile on my face and say, “No sir, as a personal rule, I make it a point never to voluntarily submit to an ad-hoc, warrantless search. But I will submit to a valid search warrant issued by the court upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.. Now if there is no other official business, I’m rather busy and need to get back to work. Am I free to resume my day?”
I rather doubt it will come to that with our current local law enforcement. If anything, our local law enforcement would intentionally balk at the suggestion they go door to door rounding up weapons. The world needs more calm, level-headed, professional Andy Griffiths and fewer knee-jerking, hot-headed, rule-mongering Barney Fifes and we are fortunately blessed with an abundance of the former.
