His Fox Show, until the end, was a masterpiece of information and was killing it in the ratings, and he had a real chance to start something great with the Blaze.
If he had given it a name that made some sense, made it a hard news network, kept the click-bait off the website, and kept out the goofy “prophecy” stuff....and the crying, it would have destroyed Fox News in the ratings.
Hero to zero in 5 years. Epic flame-out.
Wow lot of vitriol by people just sitting in their asses letting tyranny ring. Glenn Beck is a good man who has done far more to help save the Republic than any of his critics. Personally I would much rather attack people doing real damage to the country.
His long, long-time chief of staff, Joe Kerry, whom I always worked with, quit about a year ago. His top ad guy, Quinn Cotter quit about the same time. The fifth guy was a major donor/partner/supporter---I do not recall his name. Then there are Balfe and Cheatwood.
About four years ago, I was pretty close inside the Beck organization. I was getting phone calls two or three times a week to help him develop content and production. We were very close to a series of shows based on history. Then he decided to leave Fox and move to Texas.
I don't know what happened in the TX move. I've been on the show perhaps four times since the move. It hasn't done one thing for book sales---as opposed to the unbelievable response from my appearance there in 2010 when Beck began touting "A Patriot's History of the United States" and sent it to #1 on the NYTimes list . . . six years after it was released! I was able to recommend a friend's book, James Best's "Tempest At Dawn" a novel about the Constitutional Convention, and he sent that to the top of the charts too.
I think among other things the venture to Texas and into TV was, for all his money, woefully underfunded. I don't subscribe, but I'm told that "programming" basically consists of seeing his radio show being broadcast and also Dana Loesh, plus a couple of "blackboard" shows during the week. Sorry, but that won't make a TV network. You need real programming.
I have also heard wide-ranging estimates of what his Blaze network's financials were. Some said he had 85,000 subscribers, elsewhere I heard a couple of hundred thousand. Well, that's a long way from 3.5 million he had on Fox. Think of that---it's the equivalent of 35 TIMES what a normal CNN broadcast has!
It all remains a great mystery to me, and I thought I knew him, at least on some level.
Wrong? What?! You mean the antichrist isn’t coming tomorrow and the economy won’t collapse next week?!!
I used to love to listen to Beck. I almost went to his Restoring Honor rally in D.C. in 2010 but couldn’t make it.
Shortly thereafter that he started going off the deep end. I haven’t bothered to listen to him for a couple of years now. I fully expect him to come out in support of Hillary next year.
Glenn “Elmer Gantry” Beck. A fraud. A huckster.
IOW, he doesn t take positions on issues just to do better in business. A-hem.
From the article:
Industry executives also reportedly felt that ** there s no other must-see TV on the channel. **Yet they carry Al Jazeera. No, they hate Beck. They wouldn't even let him buy the Al Jazeera channel that has no viewership.
The Blaze has recently found some success being picked up in major cable markets.
Wrong I word: Insanity, not irrelevance.
I used to be a big fan of Beck, but he became 'unlistenable' several years ago.
Maybe they will eventually get his meds properly adjusted. I hope so. For a while, he did good work.
How long will we have to wait before cable broadcasting drops the Beck TV channel?
I’m sorry. It’s a Beck hit piece. Like the Huffington Puffington Post. He still has a huge following and is expanding his influence with new media companies.
He's an unstable dry-drunk Mormon nut.
Probably fun at parties for an hour or so.
I remember Beck saying one time that “I was broke before and I’ll be broke again.”
Self fulfilling prophecy.
This is so sorry—Ego or drink or what ever killed all the good he did. He could have been a contender! Now he’s just a nobody. At the start of the Tea Party—he was a great spokesperson—but when he turned on them, when he started to think he was more than he was—it turned sour. The Books he hyped, the opinions—got in the way of the movement. Get some help Beck! Go back to Temple! Go to a cave and meditate over your Book of Mormon for a while—and comeback with some new ideas that make sense. If Hillary wins—we will need you.
AJ,
I’m giving Beck all the conservative movement adulation he deserves.
But a rubber band in his head snapped. His underpowered thin balsa propeller got him to believe in things that weren’t so.
For god’s sakes man, Beck is not god!
I bought your Patriot’s History after seeing it on Fox. Thanks for your work. I’m saving it for my 8 year old. Goodness knows what passes for history in “schools” these days is far from the truth.
Any recommendations for children’s history books would be greatly appreciated. I bought her “A child’s history of the world” by V.A. Hillyer for Christmas. She’s in third grade. Thanks in advance.
Never liked the guy....watched his Fox show some but I only listened to the Blaze a couple of times on the radio, turned him off...
Is he off his meds or drinking again? Something is very wrong with the guy....
