Glocks vs 1911
AShooting Journal ^ | 12/21/2015 | S Morstan

The never ending debate of which is better for every day carry and personal protection continues. Here are some folks had to say from Glocks and 1911 forums:

Vintage68: I don't think anyone would say the Glock is a bad pistol because it's not. They're incredibly reliable, if ugly, tools. I think most people, at least on a 1911 forum, will say that that the feel of a 1911 in the hand and the trigger will beat the snot out of a Glock any day of the week.

McMagic: 1911 is a much nicer platform. Glocks are notoriously hard to get sighted in correctly due to the lack of a true iron sight, and instead just the dots on the slide. Try shooting both at your local gun club/range, I would be willing to bet you prefer the 1911.

ripdog28: Consistent training with both. I can now grab the Glock and with eyes closed, come to a Natural Point of Aim. Sights dead on. But that's also thousands of draws from different positions. Can do the same with a 1911. Think based on the grip feel, I recognize it and based on muscle memory of the grip, the NPA is easy to differentiate between. You can view the rest of the debate here and what's your take on this?

For concealed carry, I’ll stick to my Glock 26 or Glock 42.

For home defense, I’ll stick to the Glock 21 or Glock 17.

For plinking and competition, I love me some 1911’s.

All the negligent discharges with the Glock put me off ‘em.

When I decided to get a polymer pistols I checked out Glock. But I shot 1911 pistols for years the change in grip angle totally threw me off. So I tried an XD by Springfield Armory and found the grip angle is almost identical to the 1911.

I still prefer shooting 1911s but my EDC is now the XDS in .45.

The only safety that counts is the one between the shooter’s ears.

2 classic handguns.

I'll stick with my Glock 19, no negligent discharges here, Bro.

Sir, if it’s anything less than 100 posts, you’re personally responsible :-)

I had to look that one up. I thought that was the aliens rifle but it’s the terminators battle rifle.

That's also a very good gun, but not as effective in penetrating armored vehicles.

Dots on the slide? Has the author ever actually seen a Glock?

Gotta learn not to pull your pistol from the holster by the trigger.

A sensible shooter like you or I would have no problems.I’m a HK guy when it comes to high capacity handguns.

I’ve been a big fan of the 1911A1 since the 1970’s. I’ve built them, tuned them, shot them, carried them, and they are still my ‘go-to’ handgun of choice.
I don’t care for the feel of the Glock 17 in my hand; it doesn’t seat as well as the 1911A1, IMO. That might go away if I were to make a concerted effort to switch.
But at this point, at my age, why should I change.

Standard carry is 1911A1, locked and loaded, safety on, with three extra Chip McCormick Shooting Star 8-round mags.
