In a recent article titled âWhy Hitler Wished He Was Muslim,â the Wall Street Journal draws our attention to two books that reflect the historical Nazi-Islamic supremacist axis.
Given the goings-on in Europe, we thought these to be poignant titles adding necessary context to a continent that appears to be a potential powder-keg.
Of Stefan Ihrigâs âAtatürk in the Nazi Imagination,â the Journal writes:
Through the 1920s and 1930s, Nazi publications lauded Turkey as a friend and forerunner. In 1922, for example, the Völkischer Beobachter, the Nazi Partyâs weekly paper, praised Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the âFather of the Turks,â as a âreal man,â embodying the âheroic spiritâ and the Führerprinzip, or führer principle, that demanded absolute obedience. Atatürkâs subordination of Islam to the state anticipated Hitlerâs strategy toward Christianity. The Nazis presented Turkey as stronger for having massacred its Armenians and expelling its Greeks. âWho,â Hitler asked in August 1939, âspeaks today of the extermination of the Armenians?â
Apparently Hitler believed in the congruence between the values and principles espoused by Islam and his vision of Nietzscheâs âÃbermenschâ:
âItâs been our misfortune to have the wrong religion,â Hitler complained to his pet architect Albert Speer. âWhy did it have to be Christianity, with its meekness and flabbiness?â Islam was a Männerreligionâa âreligion of menââand hygienic too. The âsoldiers of Islamâ received a warriorâs heaven, âa real earthly paradiseâ with âhourisâ and âwine flowing.â This, Hitler argued, was much more suited to the âGermanic temperamentâ than the âJewish filth and priestly twaddleâ of Christianity.

Nice Find.
BUMP
I’m not making a judgement on the gist of the article, but the presentation of facts is a little incoherent. To include Ataturk as in someway being an Islamist is unhistorical. Ataturk saw Islam as being primitive and a factor in holding down the Turkish people. He forbid by law females covering their heads or males dressing in anyway tied to Islam. Ataturk’s views on Islam would make Trump look like a piker. In his personal life he could drink Ted Kennedy under the table, and he did not hide it. As for expelling the Greeks, if a Mexican army crossed the Rio Grande and marched all the way to Kansas City before being defeated, well we might do the same thing.
