Honored to have a scholar in our midst.
Thank you for explaining the workings of Christians in the Nazi era and the recent history of the Jesuit order.
What has happened to the Jesuits is a major heartbreak in my life. Several of my Jesuit teachers made such a colossal difference in my life. One nun told my parents that they just had to send me to that Jesuit prep school. My mother had never set foot in high school because she was nerve deaf. My dad was forced by his mother to drop out of high school so he could drive her around. Both of my parents were bright but never had an opportunity for an education. Above all else, they were determined that I would get that education.
My freshman and sophomore home room teachers at the prep awakened a serious thirst for knowledge in me and many students. The Jebbies of my era were also rigorously orthodox in their theology and philosophy and quite conservative in their politics. It all fell apart in just a few years.
Pray for the repose of the souls of Edmund Welch, S. J., and Francis Fayne, S. J., and Charles Munzing, S. J., and, dead or alive, for J. Vasmar Dalton, S. J. And also for me as I undergo surgery tomorrow morning to facilitate two forms of kidney dialysis.
God bless you and yours!
